Has anyone had problems with starting blender?

Everytime I run it I get the standard crash message

blender.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

the black box says

Using Python version 2.4

could anyone help me with this problem please

Checking for installed Python... got it!

so still crashing with python installed

Any ideas
