Well, personally, I don't find them to be much of an eyesore. I think they look nothing if not interesting and futuristic (but then again, I'm an Aerospace Engineer, so that kind of stuff intrigues me.) Hell, we've even got a few in LFS! Don't tell me the first thing you thought when you saw them in Blackwood was, "OMG, that is SO ugly!"

Quote from Stang70Fastback :Could you back this up with proof? I have a hard time believing that a single wind turbine, providing power to 5,000 homes, would not be more efficient over its 15-30 year lifespan than a coal plant...

He is of course way off base. About one fifth of all the power consumed in Denmark (one of the world's leading countries on wind power) is generated through wind turbines. There's no way that could happen if efficiency was that low. Unless you think one fifth of the power used in Denmark goes toward producing and erecting Wind Turbines of course. My guess is he got his kneejerk anti-environmentalist lines crossed and is thinking of solar power which still is rather ineffective.

That's not to say turbines don't have an environmental impact though. They kill a lot of birds and other wildlife for instance, and they don't exactly look pretty either, but on the whole I'm fairly certain they're a lot better for the environment than coal or other fossil fuels.
They look pretty cool when you pull out of the pits with the wind speed on high, but seeing them in real life in the middle of a town is horrible.

Those wind turbines at Somerton have an awesome road going through the middle of them (5 small ones on each side aswell as the big one on one side) and late at night when it's really quiet all you can hear is the blades slicing through the air, pretty cool.

Still, they're not all that pretty to look at it in general, but they create energy so why not.

True, and even THAT is starting to become an invalid argument. Now that wind turbines don't have scaffolding on which they can nest, and the fact that they don't place them near any migratory routes anymore. Still sucks for them birdies tho. I wonder what the edges of those blades look like after a year, lol.

As for Tristancliffe, why must he always be so argumentative
He`s just one of these person that likes to discuss, he`s one of those that likes all type of attention he can get.
And yes, that was not ment eighter offensive or negative eighter, a lot of people that are exactly like that.
There are some windmills by my grandmothers house, and they are hardly eyesore. They look great But then again at my Grandma's house the real eyesore is the coal mine in the valley below...
Quote from tristancliffe :Don't miss it. They'll probably build another one and cause yet more environmental damage with their stupid ideas about green energy. Local residents (well, the informed ones) should protest wildly against a replacement.

You just made a big mistake by posting your, Tristan. Don't ever tell anyone what you're thinking.
Quote from Don Corleone :Never tell anybody outside the family what you're thinking again!

And, I hereby join the petition to remove the dangerous windmills from Blackwood!!!

Is Tristan in bed with the oil companies or what?

Btw if you look closely in that video, you can see some tree branches hitting the windmill, that's why it broke. What kind of idiots build a windmill beside a tree?
They could always paint them bluey-grey so they merge in with the typically overcast weather. Although that might increase the birdkill.

The same sort of idiots that build Solar Powered parking meters under a big shady tree, perhaps?

(Yes i've seen this done. Epoch Fail comes to mind)

The best solution is to build them out of lexan plastic, clearly (pun intended.)

There are no trees near it. The trees you see is right outside her window and the mill is 700 meters away according to the information i has..

I was wondering how long it would be before someone took Shiny Red Cobra's comment seriously, lol.

He was being sarcastic, as the branches to look to strike it just as it tears apart in the video.
Then he should use smileys, then I would know..

My quote was not for Jackg ...

You getting me confused with someone else? I was talking about the people who build solar powered stuff in the shade of trees (which i've seen done)

Yeah, I think they look pretty cool as well because they're big impressive structures. It's just the sheer scale of them that blows me away- they're bloody massive!

Whoopse, I meant Shiny Red Cobra - my bad.

Haha, nah, wonder if LFS could earn some extra bucks from enviroment groups if they advicmented for bio fuel on every car, windmills to produce the electricity to the track lights and stuff...
Quote from The Very End :windmills to produce the electricity to the track lights and stuff...

And when you set the wind to "none" on blackwood, then very realistically, none of the lights will work. There would also be no timing, so someone would have to keep track of the positions of cars by hand. At the end of the race, LFS would report "There was no electricity available to run anything electronic because there was no wind today. Fight about the results amongst yourselves."
But guys, I was being serious.

Look at the picture, aren't those tree branches on the left? They hit the windmill and it shattered.

You know what, you're absolutely right. Those stupid idiots.

Obviously the solution, if we're really going to make this "green" technology safer, is to cut down all the trees within a mile of every windmill just to be safe
