Gross vs Net HP
Morning petrol heads

I've been digging up a load of engine specs for (predominantly US) cars from the late 60s and have discovered that, before 1972, all figures were quoted as SAE gross and not the more useful figure of SAE net. Seeing as I need the net figures, or at least an approximation of, are there any rule of thumbs for reducing SAE gross figures down to net figures?

Also, does anybody know if this only applied to cars manufactured/sold in the US? So if I was looking at 1960's VW Beetle, would I need to perform the same adjustment, another adjustment, or none at all?
