From Radeon X800 + P4 3Ghz to 8800GT + Core 2 Quad Q6600!!
Well my CPU has been randomly shutting down my PC lately so I decided to upgrade, then while I was looking I thought I may aswell get a decent graphics card so I can play stuff like crysis. Brought a Inno3D 8800GT OC edition for £155, and the Q6600 was £160 (not sure how much they were last year but im guessing thats a lot less than they came out at). Brought a ASUS P5KC AiLifestyle to put them into:

Allready have 2GB ram and a 600W Power Supply so this should work great. Can't wait to see what a quad core is like to use. Anyone on here had experience with a quad?

It should be here by tomorrow so will tell you what I think.

Quads are great for encoding, SupCom, 3DMark, Rendering, and other stuff like WinRAR.

ATM LFS only uses one core so a Quad core is a bit usless.

(i'm another Quad-core owner, although mine is nowhere near as 1337 as yours!)
Yeah I realised the Quad will only be an advantage for the very latest games, but since the Q6600 is apparently fine to OC to 3.6Ghz with a Freezer 7 Pro (which I allready have) even 1 core will be much faster then my current CPU

I also use a lot of WinRAR and Encoding, so that will be a welcome bonus.

Which quad do you have btw Jakq?

Xeon X3210 - It's based on the unreleased (and now cancelled) Q6420, with prefetchers optimized for server work (which makes it about 1%-3% slower for games) - it runs at 2.13 GHz and i've overclocked it to 2.8 GHz ('tis a rubbish CPU).

Not bad for £119 delivered over 6 months ago though.

Q6600 ftw!!

I love my Quad
We have Xeon (Server platform) quads in a couple school PC's, from what I've dealt with, they are amazing. I brought in some movies to do some HD encoding for com-tech class and the quad ate them up, with plenty of juice left to alt-tab. IIRC, I had LFS, Nero, Divx, and some winrar unzipping, with no hitches, there was still about a full 'core' left for processing. Quads are the way of the future, and it's best to prepare early. Although my judgement on fast processing may be distorted due to the fact I have a shitty processor
