1) It's a racing car, sure it'll be great round a track but on the road 600bhp will just guarantee that you will wrap it round a tree before you have a chance to grin.

2) A very good car, although it was really designed in 1994 as an old school car.

6) A very good car but a 1.5 ton track special has one fundamental problem that more power isn't the solution to. If you were given a winding road and a 911 2.7 RS or 997 GT3 would you really pick the newer 'better' car?

7) A somewhat softer Elise, still a good car although would you pick a VX220 turbo over an original underpowered Elise? My point exactly about power and speed being irrelevant to fun.

8) A fun muscle car but it's hardly light and likely to give great fun on a B road.

Some cars in LFS do need a major overhal. I find the FXO looking the oldest(excluding uf1). I've seen many cars that resemble the FXO, and they all seem to be coming from about 10 years ago. It's a bautiful car, just needs a little overhaul.

The cars are the cars they are. They represent cars from the 80s, and they are good representations of the era.

What we need is MORE cars not the same cars with a slightly different look but same feel as that would be a pointless waste of dev time. If people are asking for different look and different feel they that would be NEW cars, much better idea

I never said they had to be clones of the cars they were based off of - just have similar physics. Besides, everyone knows the MX-5 RS Coupe (see attachment) is one of the sexiest cars ever created

Ok, I make it bit more clear:
There just is no new modern cars that are any good for fun driving.

Sure there are boring workhorses that does their job, but really not much of anything as fun as around mid/late 80's and before that.

New skyline is stunningly fast car, looks of it are crap, it sounds teethless, impossible to know what it is to drive as there is no such things sold in here, but it lacks the feeling you get even with slow older car with character.

Modern car design seem to be focusing in making of cars that are unisex models, they are just like water, if older cars are more like lemonade

sorry you showed the 355 doing a time of 1.07.89 but you did'nt show the fact that the same car also did a 1.05.61 aswell if you look at result #24 so maybe it was raining on its slower time? same with the viper #37. #56 civic doing a 1.07.6 what? a fwd car with less power? how can that be? oh and can i add that the top 5 on that list 3 of them are 4wd.

A 206? An MX-5 will beat ANY 206. Without even trying

As for convertible cars, I too have that issue. The top hasn't been down for over a year, admittedly partly because of the poor summer we had. But even then, it's got to be a baking day to get it down for me. A lot of convertible owners put their tops down at the first hint of direct sunlight, and they do look silly...

50:50 weight distribution isn't actually all the great, and is pretty meaningless anyway. It would be better with a slight rear bias, say 44:56

Pretty much every track ever rewards horsepower, up to a point. MX-5s are useless in lap time competitions against anything with more power. But on the road, power is less important, and often less useable. Which is why, on a twisty road, I stand by my statement that an MX-5 is easily capable enough to keep up with stuff with over three times the power. Using track times to compare is taking it out of context. My MX-5 is rubbish at beating lap speed records, but it would DESTROY Thrust SSC around Rockingham (assuming he didn't literally destroy me in his jetwash )

I think those times are pretty meaningless they're over a number of years and will almost certainly not be fair (different drivers, conditions, track surfaces and layouts etc). As good as it may be I don't believe for a minute that in capable hands a McLaren F1 will have any issues doing circles round a Corvette. Of course if you could put any small single seater round there and it would just make the Nissan look silly and pointless, I bet even a Formula Vee would be faster round a twisty circuit like that. I don't understand the point in getting a road car to lap very quickly round a circuit by just giving it more power and then getting a computer to drive it rather than just putting it on a diet.

As I said before though laptimes are irrelevant for enjoyment be it on road, track or racing.

yeah i agree those lap times mean nothing really, tyre technology alone in the last 15-20 years has changed alot

No they don't suck there just not going to be as fun as older cars (exception being the Elise) on the road or on the track for a less experienced driver (I include myself and everybody in this thread except possibly Tristan in that).

No, please no newer cars. New cars just look stupid and they're boring and they have all this crap like ESP, TCS and so on. Cars in LFS are nice and I actually think that it would be so much better if we could get older cars.
