I decided to check up on demo recently, and I discovered the Cheaters/Hackers server was still up.

I remember, a few months ago, I submitted evidence of hacking on the server and a site providing them to a mod, who must have sent it to a dev.

However, the server is still up. Is there nothing going to be done about it?

If this has been addressed, feel free to lock and disregard the above.

I have seen that server for ages, but when I enter it I can`t see anyone that cheats. Maybe it`s just the name? Tho I know there has been people cheating on that server I can`t seem to find any evidence myself.

it could be a lfs mod that made the server with that name to catch cheaters/hackers.

If all cheaters were to stick to one server, then LFS would be a better place.

Unfortunately, that is where they get the hacks, and go on to other servers =P

And seeing as demo is more of an "advertising" tool, if people see hackers flyin around, they won't want to get the full thing, despite the actual facts.

what do you mean by cheating, like using the lfs tweaker? or are they modifying the code?? I didnt think you could cheat on lfs, if something isnt the same as the server u get kicked.

this would be a good time for the devs to start looking at punkbuster, getting that implemented would fix all these clowns, and if they chose not to install punkbuster on their server, they wont be classed as offical server, and be banned . its simple really u cheat you are exiled, ur server and your licence

Punkbuster can be easily circumvented. And it wouldn't work with LFS's style of racing/servers

Punkbuster is horrid. The only reason people like it is because when people ARE caught, they are usually punished beyond reparation. (ie banning MAC address)

I don't think that would be needed, but a system of banning cheaters for life (on the S2 Licence) could work.

As has already been said, Punkbuster has ONE good point going for it, the fact that it bans by MAC address (and hardware config!), so a ban is permanent unless the "person" goes through the rigmarole of changing the MAC address and maybe swapping a DVD drive for another one (so changing hardware config..), and creating a new account.
Punkbuster DOES NOT CATCH ALL CHEATS!!! Get that understood straight away...it can catch a few, but with hacks for games such as Call of Duty and Day of Defeat being updated regularly to stay one jump ahead of PB...it just isn't gonna happen folks
Best way I can think of for LFS is to perma-ban licenses, this doesn't stop them just buying another one (more pennies for ScaViEr ), but TBH, these people are prolly playing cracked versions anyway

Bladey, DoD doesn't use Punkbuster, it uses Valves VAC banning system, where it delay bans, to make detected cheats not so blatantly obvious that they've been detected. In HL based games, a VAC ban is 1 year, account tied for all HL based games, and for Source games, a VAC2 ban is permanent for all Source games, account tied.

Please dont do it, i come froma FPS background apart from the odd point and click game and of course my beloved LFS Im FPS through and through, since the days of doom 2 in the mid 90's up to Call of duty 4. im still hooked.

I dont really ever think on LFS man maybe hes cheating on FPS it can be in the back of your mind alot.

Now punkbuster, it doesnt catch the cheats it lags most peoples computers,i crashes lags and is genral pain in the butt, and it only catches the dumbest of cheaters.. It asnt done anything to help the FPS world if anything its made matters worse.

The cons far out weight the pro's when it comes to PB imo anway.

It bans your MAC address, and you're pretty much done for on any PB games.

ALSO- just revoking an s2 license would do it, they probably already do it.

But that's why I love VAC <3.

Punkbuster bans ur hardware, changing the mac address wont get rid of a hardware ban

well I was thinking of counter type style of anti-cheat. If your game files aren't original they wont let you in the sever (skins in this circumstance). Also I dont think people will keep making a different LFS tweak style modding program, it's just not a game that gets you ahead much to cheat with. Let them cheat on single player with all the bots for all I care

AFAIK the Devs have never taken any action against individuals caught cheating (other than banning hotlap uploads) even with good evidence and in some cases claims from people that they are cheating.
