Speaker Help (Need Connector Help)
I just bought a set of Logitech X-540 5.1 speakers, however due the odd layout of my room (and my sudden tidy-fetish in respect to trailing wires on the floor!) i can't actually mount the rear speakers without the cable having to across the floor, rather than routing it around the edge like i'd want to.

To fix this i'd like to get an extension, however I not only know nothing about audio but also I can't recognise the cable...

Pic is attached.

If anyone could link me a cheap place to buy the cable then i'd appreciate - i'd like a rather long one tbh (ie a meter or two). eBay is prefered thanks to honest postage.

Jakg.

EDIT - If anyone has any recommendations to get the most out of these speakers, ie sound settings (specifically relating to an X-Fi sound card would be great) then that would help!

The cable is a "phono" cable. http://search.ebay.co.uk/searc ... p;satitle=phono+extension

I have the X-230 speakers at Uni, and they sound suprisingly powerful for the price. They are basically the same as yours except with 3 extra satellites. The subwoofer is a bit overpowering on anything above minimum, so I don't normally set it any higher.

As for specific setting's, when you have reasonable speakers, you should always IMO use a flat equalizer and any other settings related to sound at default.

Personally I don't really like the current trend towards sub + satellite arrangement that a lot of speakers currently have. At home I was lucky enough to be given some Celestion Ditton 44 Series II speaker's which sound superb but weigh 20 Kg each. Looked around on the internet to see if any were on ebay and it seems the series II model is very rare. Only pic I found was of an abused and dismantled one.

It's an 'RCA' connection. Somewhere like Maplin would be useful I guess.. and can buy connectors and cable separately and build the cable to the length you require if you want to be "perfect" about it.. they're simple to connect, just strip the cable and solder to the 2 pins inside.

Either that, or you can pick up pre-made cables from most electrical places (Dixons etc) or car audio shops.

Also you'll want female / female RCA connectors (easiest to find in component shops like Maplin for a couple of quid) to enable you to chain standard RCA leads together for extensions.

It's a standard connection for most amps and such, both in house and in car.

10m sounds fine. If it's too much, you can coil some up. Buy a 5m one and need 6m, and you're up that creek without a paddle

Can't say I've seen single cable extensions before. Most applications have a left / right channel, hence them being twinned.. 90% of my female / female joins are twins too.

Besides, you can tear them apart anyway... I did EXACTLY what you're doing with your speakers with my z5300 system in our dorm room. I just picked up the extensions at a nearby superstore, though.
Yes, I did this recently using the crappy speakers that came with my PC. I wanted to use my stereo speakers, so I just hooked up the stereo speakers to the cable out of the PC speakers with some alarm cable. Works like a charm, crystal sound

My experience with audio is that any cable does the same job. Unless you've spent €5000 or something on speakers. Then it may be worth getting some proper stuff.
