courtesy cars and our views on quality.
We all know that eventually your beloved car will be due for a service or M.O.T. We generally have a courtesy car. But what sort of condition are these cars in. Have you ever driven one that you prefer to your own car or have you ever had one that felt like the doors could fallv off? There have been threads about your own car but what about the dealers courtesy cars nobody ever talks about those.

Today my mums car has gone for it's 1'st M.O.T for people that don't know this the vehical health check when a car reaches 3 years old. Well the courtesy car we got was a gold 02 reg Fiat punto active. The car is not in the best of condition the driver's door handle stays open so the door doesn't shut unless you push it down. The engine has no power what so ever even though it is larger than my mums 1.1l kia picanto. And it won't even fit in my garage where my mums kia does.

Mods please don't lock this thread it is a serious thread about courtesy cars.
I've accompanied many people on MOT's, even my own car. Never have we had a coutersy car. MOT's only take about an hour. Book it in and wait around, or even chat to the guy while he does it and put a £10 note in front of his eyes if he notices anything dodgy!
We usually take it to the main dealer the night before it's due so thats why we have a courtesy car because it's about 1/2 an hour before they close.
My car was taken to Main Dealer. We still waiting around and watched the guy do his thing.

But if you have taken your car to main dealer, then it will be fairly new. There is a local guy who repairs car, he has his own business and his own courtesy car...Its a "E" reg Nissan Micra.
lol. 02 quite old and it's not in good condition.
"02" isn't that old. You took your car to a Kia main dealer and they gave you a Fiat as a courtesy car? Odd.

The fact that the car isn't theirs, people tend to treat it like shit. So, you can never expect a courtesy car to be anywhere near as nice as if it was your own daily drive. Peoples mentality I guess. That's why most vans are if a crappy condition.
The kia dealer is also a fiat dealer they specialise in kia's and fiat's and yeah i suppose they will get thrashed even the demo cars do. I did once have quite a nice kia picato courtesy car mind u it was the demo car they got the day before lol.
When someone crashed into my dads SOLD S2 elise, He got a brand spanking new SLK Covertible with all the extras. Wasn't too bad

Had to then hold the buyer off, wasn't too pleased with it being crashed either
lol wish i'd had that for a courtesy car would be better than my own car lol.
My local garage uses a policy of "Courtesy car? Err... yeah take that rust bucket that someone gave to me for free and please don't bring it back..."
lol this one looks like a rust bucket it's painted gold eew.

You did?
This sounds like a required safety inspection. Is that right? Most states in America require a yearly inspection. Some states vary, but most of the time it also includes an emissions test. Takes a couple hours, and the shop gets to deny your inspection stickers untill they're happy. Mine came due in January an cost me $300something. They wanted to fix a couple things, and I was willing to let them do the work since the whole "stripped interior, roll cage" thing.

If someone gives you a car to drive, is it right to complain about its faults?
you have a service every year and the m.o.t every 3 years. and james you know what i mean.

Just be lucky.

I took my bike in for an MOT, and I ended up paying about £250 and got 2 MOT's (only paid for one, though). I got a hand-written bill. No courtesy bike (). Nothing. Not even a cup o' Coffee

You have an MOT 3 years after the car rolled off the production line, then yearly after that. Not every 3 years.
Jack, you should go back and demand your cup of coffee.

you really dont want a cup of coffee in most garages tbh.
Used engine oil, anyone?
lol i meant 3 years old then every 1 year. Well wer should be getting the picanto back later and might be able to test drive the newest model as well. I quite fancy my self in a kia magentis lol.
Good news my mums kia picanto passed it's M.O.T with flying colours. First car she's ever had pass it. Well my dads rio is going for it's service next week but he probebly won't bother with a courtesy car.
At only three years old the whole of Korea should be shot if it failed. Is it possible for a modern car to fail it's first MoT? Even if serviced by a main dealer?

You could easily fail on lights, tires, washer fluids and potentially brake pads in a badly maintained car without a service before hand. With a quick tire, lights and fluid check there's really no reason to fail though.

Does a 1995 clio count that never passed it's M.O.T once so shoot france lol.
