Mac internet connectivity
Hello all, I've been experimenting with Leopard x86 and I was wondering if anyone knows a solution to my dilemma.

Heres whats happening: I boot Leopard off my Acer, and everything loads fine. In the top right corner I get sound and my flag and time, but no internet connectivity? Is there a special "file" I have to download/transfer?

Any help would be appreciated and if you need more info, I'll try to provide.

Are you sure there's the kernel modules for it (Can you go on the interwebs?). If so, then you just need to go to System Preferences, then to the Network panel, and look for where it says "Show status in menubar" (there should be one for wireless and dialup, but not Ethernet). That should show a Menubar icon in the Menubar.
Im new to MAC so I'm not sure exactly what a kernal is, but I could not find the "Show status in menubar" in the Network

The status menu item is only available for Airport and Bluetooth, I think. If you connect via Ethernet, you're connected permanently and you don't need a status menu.

You should be able to see the status of your connection in the left part of the Network pref pane, in System Preferences. From there you can add/remove and enable/disable connection methods (Airport, Ethernet, Bluetooth, Firewire) and reorder them by drag and drop. Once your Ethernet connection is set from there and working, you shouldn't have to worry about it.

Kernels are part of every OS But, on topic, you should just plug-and-go on OSX, you don't get ethernet connection information, usually.
hmm, I still am toying around with everything, but I still cant get it to work? :/ When I had my XP be itself I think it said it had wireless ethernet

heres a picture to see

Click on Ethernet and drag it to the top of the list. Then set it to:

Configure: Using DHCP
DNS: type the addresses of the DNS servers to use

Ethernet should then show as Connected. If it doesn't, click on "Assist Me…".
How come the mods haven't closed this thread? It's a discussion on hacked, pirated software.

If you want to talk about this stuff, take it to the osx86 forums.

Because, you can do it "legally" by having your own OSX DVD (which I do for my iMac), and patching the files yourself. DLing the .DMG/.ISO off of alternate sources, rather than creating it yourself is different.

I do use the term "legally" very loosely, becuase it's legal as in you've purchased the software, but in fact, it does violate the EULA that you agree to, in way of running OSX on a non-Apple machine.
Incorrect, it is actually prohibited by the OS X user-agreement to install it on non-Apple hardware
I said that though, just not in very clear English (Lawyers can do it, I will too.) I'll just stick with my Apple hardware anyways.

Any EULA that you are forced to agree to after having already handed over money is legally null and void in the UK, yay to precedents

technically the eula allows you to install it on any pc as long as you paint an apple on the case:

This License allows you to install, use and run one (1) copy of the Apple Software on a single Apple-labeled computer at a time. You agree not to install, use or run the Apple Software on any non-Apple-labeled computer, or to enable others to do so.

putting an actual apple that youve bitten into is not advised as the stench after a week will be even less bearable then the blurry fonts that accompany it
So... I can go buy one of them "eeePC's, paint a nice white apple on it, and be good. Hmm, I like Apple's EULA even more now...

Also, blurry fonts look better?
ANYWAY... I put in the DNS Servers, but it still has a red dot and says Not Connected, "The cable for Ethernet is not plugged in" !
they dont... they look horrible and youll never see blurry fonts on any other media than a pc screen
just a really stupid idea by the same people who thought lcds would be a neat idea
I'm confused, are you running it native or through parallels?
Native: You're probably missing drivers. OSX drivers for notebook hardware don't exist for obvious reasons, so you're shit out of luck there.
Parallels: Try fiddling with the type of connection it has to the host. If i remember correctly Direct had the most success with me running most flavors of Windows and Linux's.
(Any tips on running OSX through parallels if that's what you're doing? I can't seem to get the bugger working. )
I'm running windows xp through parallels

Meh, I read the first paragraph of your post, realised it was the usual rubbish and posted my opinion
OK, the mac works with Ethernet cable plugged in, but is there a wireless option?
If you're running OSX86, unlikely, because the kernel modules are probably only for the Airport.

Which won't make much difference. After updating to Leotard, my MBP keeps dropping out of wireless networks constantly.

For honesty's sake, it's probably a bad apple as I've had numerous problems with it from the start.
