3 movies from SCC Cup, criticism wanted.
Yo.
I've made three movies from the last 3 SCC races, the thought was to just publish the movies in the swedish forum, dedicated to the participants of the cup. But now I'm bored and thought that I could share them with you guys on this forum, and take some criticism, both negative and positive so I know what to improve for the upcoming movies. I am prepared for harsh criticism from squid in particular, as the movies I'm about to post isn't really top notch, it's actually quite far from top notch. I will however post the mistakes I know of to each movie.

First one, FZR at AS North, can be found at youtube or lfs videos. This one has some very jerky camera movements in the beginning, and also I decided to use some strange path for the camera around the field. Lack of camera smoothing throughout the vid, and I also used the same clip several times.

The second one, XFR at FE Gold, can be found at youtube.
With this one I tried some special effects as you can see in the beginning, but I wasn't really happy with the result. The same type of camera path in the beginning, as I thought I'd use that as "my theme", the type of thing I do in every movie. The song I used in this movie wasn't really easy to use in an LFS vid, but I tried, some parts worked out fine, others.. well.. didn't. Heh. One problem I see in this movie is the fps, for some reason I had some fps drops and I didn't see this until I rendered the movie. By that time it was too late to fix. The fps does however improve in the end of the movie, for some reason. I increased camera smoothing, and tried to use some camera angles that isn't really "normal". Some works, others are just strange.

The last one, XFR at Kyoto National, can be found at youtube or lfs videos. Yet again I picked a song which wasn't really easy to use. All the movies so far had a slow intro between 40 seconds up to a minute, so does this one. I do realize that a movie should be made so the viewer catches interest in the movie and wishes to continue watching. With a slow intro this is hard to do, so that's something I might have to improve a bit on. In the youtube version, the overview on the track doesn't really look good. At some point the camera goes through a car. A few "blablabla made a pit stop"-messages shows up at some point, something that I dislike. As well as the green text that shows up in the chat when you turn on/off sound, it got recorded by accident. The on-board cam cuts through the roof when I looked to my left, I didn't notice this either until it was too late.

Three movies and my opinion about them. Some mistakes here and there and as I said, definately not top notch. Although I do see some improvement from my first vid, to be honest.

Looking forward to see what you guys think, although I do understand if alot of you doesn't have the time to look through three vids and give criticism about them all.
Where to start... The first two videos where lackluster and like you said, they lacked major amounts of camera smoothing. They also lack anything interesting to watch, racing wise.

Now the third video was decent. I saw some camera smoothing but it still could use a little more. The main things I didn't like about the video were: the over use of following cameras, many of the following cam angles where used more than once, if not three times, and once again the lack thereof action. However, this one was a big improvement. I think with a little more zoom, more original camera angles, and more variety, you will have some pretty impressive videos. Just have to get angles that not only look good but show case the action at the same time, those usually go hand in hand.

I didn't really feel that way about the vids until a few days later, when I watched them again. That's when I noticed that I didn't really get alot of action in the movie. Of course I will try to improve this. The camera smoothing got improved, but not enough apparently so I will use some more in the future. Any advice on how much camera smoothing I should use?

The longer sequences of the sweeping camera is liked by a few, and also by me since I think it looks good and it's a nice way to catch some action. But I agree that I used that type of camera view alot, mostly because I'm not a big fan of static cameras. But if I think about it, it's not always about what I like.

Thanks, I will take a look at this thread when I'm in the making of the next vid, and try to make use of any/all advices I get.

Edit: lol squid. I was prepared for that. We all start somewhere and I came here for advice on how to improve. All I'm saying. ;]
