The online racing simulator
manufacturer cars and named tracks
Hi guys. This question has probably been asked so many times but no matter how much I search I cant find an answer. I bought Rfactor last week and I love the idea of being able to add cars such as Clio's, Subaru's etc and tracks such as nurburgring but I have to say the game is pretty crap to be honest.

Why is it that LFS dont have and add on's for such tracks or cars. I know the cars are basically modelled on some real life vehicles but why not like Rfactor and tracks. I assumed it was because of copyright issues but how can it be if Rfactor are doing it. Is there anyway of changing the cars for extra mod addons etc??

Thanks for your time guys
Weird, you'd think people would ask this question more often.

rFactor developers are not doing it. The people who create 3rd party content by themselves for the game are. These people are called modders. And the addons are called modifications aka mods. They're all unofficial and the rFactor developers are not responsible for those. And because no one asks money for these mods, copyrights are really not an issue because no one really cares as long as money is not involved.

rFactor (without any mods installed) includes some real cars and tracks, those are officially licensed either by paying money or getting the licenses "for free" similar way than LFS got the MRT5, Raceabout, Formula BMW and BMW-Sauber F1.

No. LFS is not moddable. You can change the car skin and some textures (see the files subforum here) but nothing else.

I dunno if that is sarcasm or not but they do ask this question a lot but it in the improvement suggestions forum and its normally within a topic of the same kind of thing, real tracks and I want this car for example.

deggis has pretty much explained everything though.

That’s just some things for you to read is you want, there are loads about tracks and stuff in that section as well as more detailed explanations of why it can or cannot be done.
I just wish the cars had normal sounding names that were used on servers and so on. Trying to keep all the acronyms straight and properly associated with the various cars is about to make my head explode.

Sure it will come in time, but until then, you all might want to keep your distance- brain matter causes stains.

Why are there no third parties that create for LFS????
There must be a reason.

Thanks for those links (above). Some brilliant suggestions on there. A shame it was 2005 and still no sign of anything that was noted :-(
rFactor has open code LFS does not, so only developers can code for LFS

And that's a blessing. Looking at the regular posters here, there's maybe a handful of people who could contribute something long-lasting into the development. Everybody's got motivation (at least in the beginning) but having an insight on physics, real world experience and common sense is hard to find.

EDIT: I'd want to see Lerts do all the new shaders. Would bump up the surrealism to a whole new level.
Its because lfs isnt finsished.
It wont be finished for a long time, because it will get a great game.
That all being said, the Devs have expressed interest in making LFS moddable in the future (after S3 is finished) but nothing has been set in stone and no promises made.
boo boo!
I like the current LFS cars, It's the tracks I'm getting tired of. We need some real life tracks...
