A Canadian Vacation

Your destination really depends on what it is you're looking for in your vacation. Apparently Montreal is a good clubbing destination (at least, it is for 18-year olds since thats the drinking age there, apposed to Ontario's 19 years). If you want lots of fresh air, and beautiful scenery, heading to the mountains is a good bet (be it the real ones in BC/Alberta, or the false ones in Quebec :P), and so forth. What is it you want to do?
Actually Maggot, The Trans Canada highway takes a more scenic route thru BC than the Coquihalla, which is a toll highway, but is much quicker than following Highway 1. Highway 1 goes to Banff, whereas the Coquihalla goes almost directly towards Calgary.
Aha, true! BUT, I'd still prefer to take some twisty backroads :P

The Coq ends at Kamloops, halfway into the interior... About 6.5 hours before Banff; heading East... Banff is a tad over an hour away from Calgary You have no (real) choice but to be on the #1 between Calgary and Kamloops, and the Coq is only a 3 hr stint between Kamloops and Hope.
Then, Wikipedia is crap at giving me information
Why would I want to tourism around BC!?
Why wouldn't you want to tour around BC? You may live there, but still... It's BC!!!!
Meh, Gimme Australia, South Korea, Japan, or anyother place in Europe, I'll be happy.
I'd love to go to Europe and/or Australia as well.

...but still.... BC!!!!

I'm too planning a vacation to canada, possibly a quite long one too: two weeks on the east side, and two on the west side, roughly.
I just wanted to ask if there are events like motorsport races or air shows between 6th of july and 6th of august, somewhere near toronto and vancouver, or on the "french-speaking side".
I'll give my bits and some are i'm moving to BC, Tofino to be exact and i'm moving from Alberta which is nice if you like prairies and stuff but in Tofino there is lots of whale watching which is always fun and i agree with people saying BC is buetifil IT IS BUETIFEL!!!

Actually i've heard it's "beautiful".

Could be wrong, though.
It's nothing special. There's mountains, roads and cities. Pretty much your bog-standard province.

July 17-20 is the Parts Canada Superbike round at Mosport, if you're into bike racing. July 18-20 is the Ferrari Festival at le circuit Mont Tremblant in Quebec.

You picked the wrong time to come to the East side of Canada if you want to see some racing, mate. If you were coming in August you could see the ALMS round at Mosport, and if you were coming in June you could see both the VARAC classic event at Mosport and the Sommet des Legends at Mont Tremblant. When's the Canadian F1 GP? I stopped following F1 closely so I've got no idea when it is, but that could potentially be an option if it's in July?

Bog-standard in heaven, maybe. I think BC has some of the most beautiful scenery on the planet, plus a wonderful climate. (Not too hot, not too cold, not too much snow, etc..) And I love the bucket-fulls of rain.

What the heck are you going to do in Tofino?!? It's nice to visit, but I'm pretty sure I'd get bored pretty fast. Of course, like much of BC the main pass time is smoking pot on welfare

Dustin... lol, BC is in no way "typical" scenery, at least not the vast majority of it. Silly Nanaimoite!

Quote from ans7812 :I've always thought of Canada as a nice peaceful country and am planning a vacation there for the summer. We are planning to stay in Montreal. I'd like to hear from Canadians or people who have visited this area. Can anyone from there or who knows the area suggest sites to see, things to do, places to go etc in the Montreal area?

If it helps, I am going with three of my friends and we plan to take Amtrak there (from New York.) We plan to stay for 6-7 days. Any help is appreciated.

No real help I can offer, but I can say that I'm also planning on going to Montreal this June for the grand prix. It should be a great time. We're staying in an RV park about 20-30 min from downtown Montreal.

We really don't have any specific plans other than wander around the different parts of the track and the island, then to the downtown area right near it. From what I understand there are several breweries, which will be calling me like a siren. I'll steer straight into the rocks with wild abandon.

I was fairly disappointed to learn that the Uninbroue brewery is well outside Montreal itself, so we probably won't have time to visit it. La Fin Du Monde and Tres Pistoles are two of the finest ales I've ever experienced.
