We have the XL package from Telewest but we don't seem to get Motors TV, it is on the channel list on Virgin Media's website. It says it's subject to what area you'r in. So could anyone tell me if they get Motors TV in or around the Plymouth area please?

I can't even get that package until 2012, and half our freeview channels don't work. Got to love Virgin Media.

Well their better then BT aren't they, well lets not get in that dispute, anyone else get Motors TV in or around the Plymouth area.

You have to put up with BT if you get Sky though, if you don't have a BT line then its a waste of money.

But surely Virgin is a lot worse than BT? I guess Sam doesn't have much of a say as he is 14/15, but what is so bad with having a BT phone line? It's not a dig, I just wondered...

If you don't have one already then you need to pay to get one installed, it costs more than iRental and BT is more unreliable. Virgin Media has good broadband services, when they actually get them setup they rarely go down.

I've had my broadband fail about 5 times, and I got it back when it was called NTL, and everytime they have sent out an engineer the next day to fix it. The added bonus is that if you get through customer service and properly complain about something they just half your bill to shut you up. When with NTL we got a years free broadband and 50% off the next year because it took them 2 months to get our connection working. Then more recently when we threatened to switch to BT and get Sky they cut our cable and phone bills in half too. My friend had BT at one point and his connection failed up to 5 times a month, my area is crap for almost everything, its a 'black spot' for everything from broadband to digital TV, so Virgin Media while being crap is the least crap for my area.

Sadly thats usually the case in the UK now, you don't go and find the best service you find the least crap . Personely I think virgin are pretty damn good. Started with blue younder on 2mbit internet many years ago, and over time got free upgrades to 20mbit, and some time this year they're upping it to 50mbit. Plus thier ondemand tv service is just amazing.

Great, is it as good as it's meant to be? Hasn't really been VM for long, apparently they are trying to get it for the service what used to be blueyonder aren't they?

If this hasn't already been cleared up, Sam, you can only get MotorsTV if you live in an area that was served by NTL before NTL and Blueyonder merged. If you're in a formerly-Blueyonder area, MotorsTV is off the menu, I'm afraid.

IIRC, Plymouth was Blueyonder.

£150 installation fee for BT lines, even if they advertise "free connection". A lot of us, with cable, don't have BT phonelines. Either the lines deteriorated or were removed, or are simply "off the BT computer". If BT think you don't have BT cabling, you effectively don't have it.. whether or not it's physically there, they'll charge the full installation price and unless you agree to it, you'll never get a line. I'm in a Blueyonder area, so I can't get it (which is why I know the full story).. been on the phone to whinge and eventually just dropped the TV package back down to almost nothing.

My brother has it, and frankly I'm glued to it when I visit. But then I'm up for any motor racing on 4 wheels.. and on MotorsTV, it just keeps coming. It's kewl.

Hopefully they try to get a contract for what used to be a Blueyonder area then we will all get it, I have heard stories that VM is trying to get the contract for MotorsTV in what use to be the blueyonder area hopefully this is true.

Yeah, I'm hoping for the same thing. I don't know when the NTL contract is up, but knowing Virgin they'll screw it up and complain that it's all too expensive, like they did for Sky1, and it'll get lost to all areas. At least we've got Star Trek TNG back.. I missed that while it was away!

There are quite a few episodes that I haven't seen, or fully absorbed anyway. I'm a bit of a TNG fan. I'm a bit of a Star Trek fan these days, too, although I never used to be.

Patrick Stewart is a stonking actor and the TNG character reminds me immensely of my first boss in a multitude of ways, and those first years of fulltime employment were very formative years for me. TNG rather protractedly reminds me of some good years, way back
