Help with braking
Hi!

I might not classify as a beginner, but my question really does. I used to have a red momo with squashball mod and brake axis tweaked with DXTweak. The feel and behaviour of my brake was almost like a real pressure based pedal. Heel and toeing was as easy as in real road cars, and I could adjust the braking force really precisely.

But now I have a G25, and about thousand laps under my belt. I don't even start talking about heel and toeing, because it's just impossible because of bad positioning and too long pedal travel. But in the heat of the race I can't even apply the correct amount of braking, either I lock up or brake too slowly. I can recall countless of fights with LX6 where I've been a lot faster in every other aspect except braking, but my rival has braked so much more efficient, that overall I've been slower.

I know that a lot of you guys are really talented on the brake, and have no problems heel and toeing with unmodded G25. How do you do it? Would you mind sharing any tips that have sped up your learning process? How would you recommend to set up the braking force of the car? Are other G25 users struggling with the same problem? Thank you in advance guys

EDIT: Case closed, buy a Nixim brake mod. When you've spent 250e on an incomplete wheel, 10e is relatively cheap price for something that makes it perfect! (even though it's just a little piece of simple rubber)
Mostly with a lot of pain, at least if you're wearing thin socks. As far as I can remember it was not quite smooth either, making you lose brake pedal pressure if you were just the tiniest bit sloppy. For the most consistent results, a brake force that can't or can only barely lock up your wheels is best, though not exactly realistic. That's mainly needed because keeping a constant travel(!) while heel toeing is almost impossible with the default pedal setup, screwing you big time if your wheels lock up on every corner.

I'd highly recommend modding it; you don't have to go as far as load cells or stuffing a sliced up squash ball inside the spring, but at least the brake pedal spacer mod should be quite easily doable and improve heel toeing tons.

when i saw your question, nixim progressive brake mod jumped my mind.
but that will imply taking it apart, hence voiding warranty, but if that`s not an issue, try it and you won`t be sorry..

I set up the braking force in setups to be able to brake fully at high speed at the most grippy braking zone on the track without the wheels locking. This means in a car with d/f you will need to start lifting gradually off the brake pedal again, or any downhilll sections or similar, and it works for me.

Without modding anything, I'd say just fiddle with different braking forces in your setups, maybe even fiddle with the brake linearity setting in LFS (can't remember what its called but there is an adjustment in LFS for the pedals). In general keep trying until you feel comfortable.

Edit: I also migrated from the squashball mod with an ms wheel to a G25.

they dont look far apart. once more is that they actually have a little piece of metal stuck on the side for you to do it! :P

I can stuff my whole heel into that hole
But longitudinal positioning is the one that distracts the most.

I had read about the nixim mod some time ago, but didn't know that you can order it via form and pay in 3 minutes with a credit card. Just ordered it, loads of thanks, STF!
The nixim brake mod completely took off my braking problems! Worth every penny. It feels just like the good ol' squashball. Improved the feel of the pedal, but also the improper longitudinal pedal spacing, making heel and toeing and brake force adjusting more natural and a piece of cake.

If you normally wear socks while racing try with shoes on. The G25 pedals are strong enough. I have had my G25 since release and no probs or damage to the pedals yet. Feels more natural using shoes and makes heel toe easier, hurts less.

That said I am thinking about the pedal mod soon as the travel is too long which causes issues. Because of that I dont tend to heel toe as much now. Stronger brakes and shift when the revs are lower to avoid engine braking lockups

I can recommend the mod unservedly!
No need for shoes at all...

Have always worn shoes sim racing since I started. Just felt more natural for me
What exactly does the nexim mod actually do? It was kind of hard to tell from the pictures. Besides reducing brake force I mean..

If I'd seen this thread earlier I'd have recommended this quick-and-easy (and reversible) mod. It really helps for heel&toe. This is what I use (with shoes).

lol, i missed completelly this thread the last couple of days.

i`m glad to have helped, nice to see you liking it.

that`s a nice mod you got there, and it could go really well with that rubber block mentioned earlier.

basically what it does is: when you press the brake pedal, you don`t have that liniar feeling of just.. pushing something. that rubber block you fit in there, creates some resistance as you press it, not limiting the pedal travel, just makes it stiffer and stiffer as you push it further, making you able to threshold brake easier.
since i don`t have it yet(no wheel yet), maybe frokki could explain the feeling better..?
i`ve only read about it, and can only imagine how it feels, and relate it to my irl experience.
you can check their thread over at race sim central, to be able to make an impression, they explained it really well there.
im not heeltoing at all, so it isnt a prob for me (g25 too)
i just release the cluthc a bit after shifting down, and my engine revs up.
