Bad Smell
So, umm, I woke up this morning and an awful smell greeted. I checked everywhere where an awful smell could come from (yes, even there) but could not locate it. But now I think I have found out where it's coming from. I believe a bird or something may have fallen down the chimeny and got stuck just in the part of the chimeny that's next to my room (and a tiny air vent). It's impossible to reach the chimeny from below because we have a gas fire that has blocked it up, and I doubt that we can climb on the roof and inspect it.

So, what am I going to do? I don't want to live with rotting meat forever!!!
call a chimney-sweeper and let him clean the chimney
Get someone to clean the chimney out?

I had a weird smell in my room for a while. It took me days to work out where it was coming from. It ended up being my light bulb, the dust burning (I guess) was causing an awful smell.

How did I solve it? I just don't use the main light in the room.

But it's blocked at the bottom so the only way to get in is from the top. I don't know how sweepers work, but I'd be surprised if they could pluck a pigeon from the middle of it!
I've just thought... You could taser the pigeon

You see, the probes would get stuck into the pigeon, and then you simply reel in the taser wire

You would need a powerful torch and some way to get onto your roof though

It probably fell over from shock when it heard your singing coming up the chimney...
If it's a rotting corpse of a bird it should have maggots in it. Best thing to do is to go up onto your roof with a fishing rod, and put a fish on the hook. That will attract the maggots (fish and maggots attract eachother - this is the basic principle of fishing) and you can simply reel him in.
use a large, extendable magnet.

most modern birds are magnetic, with the exception of crows.
Have a shower

they usually have a large ball of steel (insert childish chuckle here) with "feathers" on it to clean the chimney, so I guess they could remove it. Just describe them your situation and they'll tell you what they can do.
Give it a week or two and it will rot away completely.

Or buy some live fishing bait and drop the maggots down your chimney. Should eat it way a lot quicker, then when it's gone - no smell

But look at the variety of answers I got! There is clearly a wide range of people in this forum which can give you a balanced view of the whole situation

Thanks for your (sometimes disgusting) tips guys!
put some TNT in it, ur chimey will also be cleaned then
Cats eat birds, throw a cat down there.

then you have fresh air in your room from outdoors

Then the cat will die... but not problem, we can throw a dog later
Burst some Air Freshener can tops so they spray without the button pressed, and lob them down there... also, once you get it fixed, maybe putting a metal wire grate over your chimney so it cant happen again
Ever try blocking the vent?
Reminds me about some topic about stuff in the air conditioning

Fill your chimney with water, it'll block the smell.
ive had same kind of problems. i still dont know where the smell came. now i dont do anything in my room(only watch tv,sleep and do homework) and the smell is gone for now

I read that in the SUN today, any of you southerners had funky smells drifting you way?. I like how they call the french "garlic-eating surrender monkeys".

nah.. a little napalm should do the trick.
seriously tho, get a plummer or something :P
Hahaha you guys!

FYI I can't block up the vent or the chimeny will go mouldy apparently. I think it's pretty mouldy already, but whatever.
