Pull back facility for MRT?
Would it be possible to have some kind of 'pull back' facility for the MRT?

The reason is that the MRT is well suited to the shorter South City circuits and sometimes a fairly innocuous spin will leave you with the nose of the car pressed up against a barrier.

I appreciate that they have bike engines and therefore cannot have a reverse gear, but it would be nice to maybe allow a marshall to pull the car backwards away from the barrier and would do away with the need to allow resets to overcome this problem.

Perhaps it could be an option, in case people prefer not to use it.

EDIT: Or maybe just have a 'marshall reset' option that does not repair any damage, and will not reset the car if it ends up on its side or on its roof.
EDIT 2: Or how about fitting the MRT with an electric reverse unit, like the ones made from starter motors?
EDIT 3: Or the broom handle solution - see post #9 below (Patent Pending © thisnameistaken 2008)
Agreed,

IRL the driver would step out and push the car back manually, correct?

Not sure about SAE rules, but it sounds too dangerous to have driver walking around the track.

SAE probably doesn't have any walls that a car might hit though - iirc it's all AutoX.

-1 from me. Would cause issues until we get full course yellow and safety car. Also the push back should NOT be instant. SHould have to way for marshall to reach the car and then waitr for SAFE time to push it back.

Prolly a bit OTT for the MRT, no?

Yep. Fair enough.

So allow a short delay (although in practical terms, leaving it too long could lead to unnecessary pile-ups) and then only allow a reset/rejoin once the coast is clear.
Even though they're bike engined, do they have a bike gearbox? I'd have thought that most drivers would want a gearbox with a reverse gear, rather than have to wait for a marshal to push them backwards...
Easier solution: Strap a broom to the roll hoop, which you can use to push yourself away from a barrier when necessary. It would make the MRT look super-cool too.

Being the fact that it's an SAE car, I doubt it's a situation ever faced IRL. Usually they tend to break before they can ever spin anyways... plus there's generally no walls close to the vehicle, as Jak said they essentially run AutoX courses.

Gotta make sure it's on so it goes lengthwise for minimum drag.. plus then it'd look like a super bad-ass mohawk... on a stick.

Marvellous idea!

I'll add that one to the list.
I guess one possible solution would be to add a 2mph slight nudge backwards when you try to drop a gear from 1st. Just enough to push you off a wall without turning you into a danger on the track.

I've no experience with SAE, but obviously with karts you can just stick your leg out and push
Let's vote:
a) a broom
b) a leg
c) a rotating stand (or levitation, does LFS model sub-atom physics?)

Illustration for the weak minded

Why not simple make a counter that goes from 10 to 0 and at 0 the car starts slowly moving backwards?

I feel that the leg option might interfere somewhat with left foot braking, so that's a non-starter for me and while I really like the stand/levitation device, it has to be said that the broom solution has a certain simple elegance, so it's a) for me.
OK I'll ride the sarcastic wave with the rest. The MRT shoud have a hidden deployable sail. Just one push of a button and wait for the right wind...or break one yourself.
Ensure that there are sufficient cows dotted around the circuit, trained to push stranded cars.

When you get stuck, one simple "CowCall™", and...

...MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooo...

...you are back in the race.

Edit: Could even have a moo sound effect, as long as it's generated in real time using Scavier's "MooNoise™ generator
Okay, that's just taking it too far Tristan. Shame on you.

Do we really want a bunch of noobs coming here and complaining about the crappy cow sounds and how cows sound much realistic in GT4?
Whatever happened to...

a) the fan idea? Simply mount it, twist it 180 degrees, turn on full, bingo

or

b) Paying somebody in the stands to push you back

@Kev, then they'll whine about how the cows don't chew as well
+1 for marshalls coming to aid
relatedly, +10,000,000 for spectating cars to go on a tilt and slide/crane rather than disappearing.
Quote from DieKolkrabe :

"You have insufficient LFS credit."

The cow idea wouldn't work. It wouldn't pull it by itself so you'd also need to add a stick or a foot just to make it move. And the collision physics of stick on ass would catapult the cow into space. And you ask Earthworm Jim how that works out.

Nonsense Dajmin. Just code in that the cow moves when it sees grass... Problem solved.

Now, where's my cookie? xD
