hi everyone, getting problems with hosting server , ive set my ports up so i can host because ive got a router, and put my i.p adress in the box that asks for it, when i host the problem is with people trying to join, i always get the message "new guest timed out" so im always lonely :P , i definitly know the port im using is correct and i should have a fast enough connection with a 3mb adsl connection (i hope).
My game shows up in the list at lfsworld but not in the list in the game itself, what could it be?? pls help! forwarderd ports in windows, router and norton.
Like I already state, have the same problem, however I may add, I can serve excellently using W98, its WXP w/sp2 thats the probs , have ports fowarded/opened, all fire walls off, even windows one.. XP suks for me still.. Might try Vista next.
SP2 in not the problem, some people just like to blame the OS when they have something configured improperly. Try setting your IP in LFS back to auto and make sure you're forwarding both the TCP and UDP ports.
thanks for trying to help out.
Unfortunatley I have auto on and both the TC and UDP are opened and fowarded . My W98 works great..it wouldnt work either if I didnt have ports opened btw.
sorry for reving an old thread, but i have opened all the ports, turned off all firewalls, but still my friend cant join, do you have an suggestions? (ye si know its a bit thin on the ground, but still!)
Does your ISP have any form of filtering / throttling / firewalling?
Can you serve other stuff, such as http or ftp?
Do you have multiple network cards in your pc?
If so, are you binding LFS to the right NIC, and routing
packets to the right internal IP?
If you completely turn off every firewall / software network security
package you might be running, and set yourself up with a direct
connection to the internet (ie. no router), does it work?
Basically you need to narrow down your problem
Ie. can you serve _anything_, can you host with an older LFS server,
is the problem related to you or your ISP, or your friend. etc.
1. Can join if im on this side of the router, thus i suspect that
2. Dont know, but our isp is very small (BT said they wouldnt give us broadband in our area, so CSB (our interent provider) came up with wireless broadband, bought it with an 18 month contract, just as we did bt offered it! so now im stuck with 512 kb/s download and less than 256 kb/s upload!)
3. Never tried, but my dad uploads stuff to ftp if that helps at all!
4. One on the mobo that is disabled because it doesnt work, so i use one on a pci-network card
5. Cant, part of the way our broadband works means we HAVE to use the router
i have done the port forwarding, now checking the other site
I can't think of anything to test that's using udp.
Uploading to ftp isn't necessarily showing anything, many ftp servers support passive mode,
which would work even if you're firewalled, ie. it can become the same as you being able to play, but not host.
Edit: i'm sure you could ask your isp if they're blocking unusual ports or whatever.
Edit 2: have you tried the dedicated server?
Edit 3: can you set your machine as DMZ in the router config?
