Momo steering wheel suddenly stopped working (moved to hardware)
anyone know why my momo aint working ?

suddenly during a race everything just stopped working. peddlas and sterring wheel. nothing is working.

usually there is a green light on the wheel showing that it is powered up. not even that is light so im wondering if it is a fuse blown inside the machine.

im reluctant to open it up since i think i still have a guarantee

any suggestions, previous experience of this happening to you or someone you know ?

thanks

It might be obvious but have you checked if everything is plugged in?
ye
everything is plugged in. i just checked again and i managed to get the lights on the wheel back on by putting the USB in another socket.

however the peddals and the wheel still dont work whereas the buttons , and peddal gear shifter and the gear knob still works.

everything works except the wheel and peddals

Did you try uninstall & install again (from device manager)? Its maybe a driver issue.
You can check (after fresh install);
start>run>type
joy.cpl
you should see your controller over there and status "ok"

Edit:He seems fixed it (on-line at CTRA SS)
no i was trying to see if it works. but nope. still fekked. i think my wheel is totaly borked. i opened it up and no fuses or anything. so god knows whats wrong with it.
I assume that the MOMO itself has a power source, so have you checked the fuse on the plug? It's fairly obvious, yet funny how it can be forgotten sometimes
same issue here. works fine in rfactor but i go into lfs and it just doesn't recognize the separate axis. Then I go into the control panel and open up the momo screen and the dials are pegged and only changing to combined axis works. LFS problem? works in rfactor but then control panel doesn't recognize it? something's fishy

ps-vista sp1
basically all the controls now work except the wheel itself.
the power is going to the wheel but you can use it without the power source so power is irrelevnt in this situation. well i was in my experience when i forgot to plug the power in sometimes.

anyway im gonna throw the lot in the bin. cant be assed with it. im just gonna buy a new one when i have some cash. what a waste of money.
So it doesn't work at all? Not recognising input in LFS or in the control panel?

How long have you had it? Most electronic stuff comes with 6 months or longer warranty now. It might be in your interest to talk to whoever you bought it from and/or Logitech themselves. In the past they have been somewhat helpful.

Wheel doesnt work even a bit?
If its work/move (in game) but in absurd way, maybe the problem is your encoder (mounted in wheel case).
Encoder is like a disc with holes in it. Its same with mouse encoder (old "ball" type), you may check here to see what is look like (3 & 4).
Maybe some dust or dirt prevent it to do its job.
If your guarantee period is over, I think its worth to check inside the wheel case if everything looks fit before throw it.

@mattlikespeoples;
Its weird really, you may consider to reinstall drivers (remove completely before reinstall). I used four kind of wheel with LFS, I never faced that kind of problem. If your wheel program working well (which is working independently from LFS or any other game) you should adjust freely like combined or separated.
Sometimes predefined "profile" is selected by accidentally, that profile maybe dont allow the separate pedals option.
i have opened it since the guarantee is over.

the disk sensor is perfectly clear and clean. however when i tap it with the end of a screw driver the wheel in callibration window "joy.cpl" moves full left or full right v abruptly, it also moved the pedals... strange but true.

the ffb is also not present as if to suggest no power is getting to the motor although the power cable is working properly "i checked it already with a volt/current detector thingy"

i think the board chip has had an episode of madness and is now totally borked. unless any of you guys know what it might be the only thing is to trash and buy new.

i did buy this from e-bay for £40 apparently "new" from a company selling refurbished products. probably was a factory reject or something. lesson learned i think !!

When you touch the sensor with tip of your screw driver, wheel & pedals moves? its weird since pedals have not got a drive motor afaik.
Well at least the drive motor in the case is seem ok.
Another interesting thing is the sensor is there to not send signal to wheel motor but receive and process the wheel movement to digital signal via IR leds. Maybe there is one or more crack lead on the card, or as you pointed, maybe the controller chip is not working properly.

You can check if there is lead crack somewhere on card; Remove the card entirely, clean it with mild soap & brush than cleanse with running water, immediately dry it completely with hair dryer than check. I suggest use magnifying glass and strong light source.
If its the chip, most economic solution I guess look for a identical wheel set to obtain a card in working condition. Who knows maybe you can find second hand card seller or something in your area or on the net.
At the moment, I cant think anything else but above, maybe other guys have other opinions.
Good luck windy81!
thanks Halo,

i have checked the board and its not cracked.

like i said since the sensors for wheel movement move the pedals also its probably the controller chip or the whatever its called that decides the action of signals.

the ffb is totally absent so the motor may or may not be working. who knows i don't know how to check this but i don't think this has any bearing upon the functioning of the wheel as a whole i.e. without ffb the wheel would still detect movements. the only thing iv'e done is to see what happens in calibration window when i type joy.cpl in run and then go to properties.

thanks anyway

Your welcome Windy81. I wish I could help.
Unfortunately my modem messed up, I bought a new one, configured it and now Im connected.
indeed. new MOMO :/ is the answer. nothing against logitech but i certainly expected it to work for a bit longer than it did. just unlucky i guess. i'd love a g25 but the cost is just unreasonable considering im only playing for fun 2-3 times a week and anyways the momo was brilliant when it was working.

anyone with a MOMO for sale please let me know. I might buy it
P.S do you think the fact that i had FFB maxxed out, blew it up ??? is maxing out the ffb advisable ? or not ? just a quick gander.

Max FFB is a thing normally you can do with your wheel. Im sure 100% FFB is in design criteria of the wheel. However, in general I set that value not much than 25% (for my own comfort). On the other hand, I think maxxed ffb would reduce wheel overall life because of more stress. Sure it depends the build quality.
For example; this wheel is like a tank!
