Mythos - Official Topic
I can't believe I'm the first to get to these games and post them here. Grid, Mario Kart, now Mythos.

Basically, for those who don't know, Mythos is a casual MMORPG made by Flagship Studios, a company formed by some of the people who brought the world Diablo and some of the people behind the original Warcraft and Starcraft - and the history is obvious from the content and screenshots.

I recently got my closed beta invite and it's been a riot so far. The combat is utterly crazy, just like Diablo was. Looks to be pretty bug-free, although there are obviously still a few issues to be resolved. It's all done with a good sense of humour and in a very easy to pick up style.
It seems to borrow a lot from Guild Wars and WoW (travel system, quests and abilities), which can't be a bad thing. It does look to be set up pretty well for a casual player too, with no serious grind to speak of and fairly basic, well-designed quests.

And it's going to be free to play. With a standard pay to play system, I imagine.
The biggest MMORPG market seems to be Korea and for some reason they seem to love the grind. For the life of me I can't think why. Doing the same thing over and over for no reason is boring as hell - as a nearly 6-year Everquest veteran I know of what I speak

I am interested to see how it all plays out when it goes live. I've levelled 3 characters up to around 12 in no time at all, and it doesn't look like there's that many skills in the system to make it worth battering away at for countless hours. Nor does it look like there's anything in the way of restrictions (like one path closing off another), so what will make any one character better than another will be down to skill, reactions and gear.

At the moment "rare" gear is dropping like candy but I expect this is just for the beta. And even in Elite mode (more enemies, higher level, better AI) a single player can plough through a load of enemies by themselves with very little danger. At the low levels, it was only really the dungeon bosses I had trouble with. I've never been into any Epic groups (more challenging instances) though, so deaths could be a bit more common.

I love my Gremlin Bloodletter though

Yup, well done

Next you'll be posting in all the car forums claiming that you love your Testarossa's and Viper's and Miura's as well

Never been able to stay in that genre... sure I loved Diablo1 and lets say Crusader but I never got into any of the others like warcraft and maybe empire earth. Today if I cannot see the horizon(1st person shooter style), I won't really bother.

These genres provided some fun for me back in the days when computers couldn't simulate real world environments like they can today. Sad though... Diablo was a game for me which ended up blowing away my expectations at the time.
I played this back when it was in the earliest stages and it sucked. I hope it got better by now.

I won't be testing it myself because i'm in the army now.
