Nah, 2 destroyed cars but it would in my opinion be less dramatic afterwards. After all he did some kartwheels further down the grass and stopped in the armco.
Flying cars aren't anything new and there have only been a few that I've known of in the last 10 years (including the 2 Mercedes at Le Mans and the Porsche 911 at Lime Rock (?)) excluding ovals. There have been a couple of fatal flying car incidents at Fuji too. Gilles Villeneuve colliding with Ronnie Peterson in 1977 and flying into some people who were standing in the wrong place. Then a Japanese Sportscar Championhip race where a car lost it coming out of the last turn, spun and took off as the car caught the air in the wrong way. Made its way into the crowd and killed at least 1 person.
3 Mercedes CLRs at LeMans ('99), actually, and the Porsche 911 GT1 flipped at the Petite LeMans (Road Atlanta) in '98 as well as a BMW V12 LMR in '99.
These things happen, I guess. I still don't see what it was that caused the Oreca to spear off to the right. I don't recall seeing tiresmoke so I don't think it was locked rear wheel(s).
holy what a chrash... koverlainen's one was nothing compared to this. I'm happy the security standards develloped well in motorsports, so nothing worse did happen.
MAGGOT you forgot the Audi R8 LM at the eurospeedway Lausizt, where Michele Alboreto died in 2001. I think there were no pictures about that one, that may be the reason that you did not mentioned this.
And yeah, it was 2001. Time really flies, yeah. Gonan be 7 years since the WTC attack in septembre. Seems almost like yesterday even if i was 12 years old.
I can remember that it was 2001 not only by thinkin of the WTC, also i can remeber 2001 i moved into a new city, and 2001 a really great racing series, the V8Star, with jonny checotto, roland asch, pedro lamy, and so on, started in its too short life (2003 was the last race of it ), and then during a DTM coverage i heard the news of Alboreto. I was 10.
I really don't think this series is popular enough for them to be removing videos that could draw in new fans. I see that and think, this type of racing isnt so boring after all, I might take a look at a race next time its on TV.
Not yet removed... and quite a lot of views. That last one is actually my secondary account. The video removal just seems so often totally random (except FOM/F1 who removes everything). MotorsTV actually has its own channel in youtube too. I guess the removed clips were from MotorsTV.
I can definitely see when full episodes of tv shows or something you can buy on dvd etc. gets removed but how a clip like that makes MotorsTV loose subscribers/money, that I don't get.
I've heard that crash actually made into sportsnews that otherwise wouldn't have bothered about the whole series. 15 mins of fame
1000 km of Spa in two weeks. Whole race is only live in MotorsTV and first 30 mins in Eurosport, but Eurosport nicely offers free internet stream. Le Mans Series started in 2004, it has been quite pale and boring compared to American Le Mans Series but now the Audi vs. Peugeot battle has definitely brought some heat to the series. The last hours of the Monza was pretty amazing, not something you usually expect from a longish 5 hour race. I guess the race should be look pretty exciting in a nice 1-hour highlights package that is shown on Eurosport.
I have to wait until 2012 until I can get MotorsTV, thanks to my area being one of the last to get proper digital TV. I could probably get it on cable but theres no point when I can watch stuff online at the moment. I watch GT highlights on channel 4, and the new GT series is starting on ITV4 soon.
Download TVUplayer, under sports and then the channel Speed! a lot of car racing shown here! they do AMLS but don't know for sure if LMS is also on speed.
Like I said Eurosport offers free webstream (some people have said it has country restrictions but for me it has worked always). The stream is just continous "world feed", includes interviews but no commentary at all which is actually good because you can open another media player and listen Radio Le Mans. If you're interested check the Le Mans/ALMS/LMS 2008 thread here for links.
Without webstreams I'd have simply no chance watching it live from television.
