does anyone know of a realistc online racing game that is focused around stock car racing and free to play? (e.g. Driven to Destruction / Destruction Derby... but online). I've been trying to find one for a long time now, but i haven't found one.

I need it to be realistic and pretty good on the eyes, and no i wont be leaving LFS its just a stress release to stop me ruining somebody else's race lol.

i see you idea and like it, it would be good to have somewere to go and smash each other up when having a bad day or just had a bad race

Any game from the Burnout series will do the job. High speed racing, primarily focused around wrecking your oponents in any way possible, while having the feeling of going 200mph.

That was supposed to be the revival of Stunts but it turned out to be total crap.

Flatout might be good. The first one. The latter game (Flatout 2) become too close to Burnout with all the bling bling. Altough still annoying handling for an arcade (half-automatic brake and so on, makes no sense). Dunno how active online community that has, it's quite old game already...

Upcoming free modification for HL2, fun but limited atm with only deathmatchs available, 3 cars and like 5-6 weapons.

I had a blast on it so far though, just make sure you go for low ping servers.

In the future they are adding more modes, cars and weapons, its only on V1.0.0 atm, and was only released for download about 2-3 weeks ago.

If you have HL2, you might as well try it.

flatout 2 were this ''blingbling pecause they actually made some street cars. the first flatout were betterpecause it had only bad looking muscle cars and some crappy other cars but this FL2 is totally messed up with non-derbycars

Mario Kart.

the physics in it are awesome, almost 100% correct depiction of the mario universe.

Nascar Racing Season 2003 - the game itself is expensive (mostly available at Ebay), but the online play is free. One of the servers is named "hi grip wreckers", which is probably what you're looking for. Grip is cranked up, the cars are at max power (no restrictor plates), and the racing / wrecking is done on the high speed ovals. I haven't been paying attention to see if there are many players on that server still. Sierra semi-shutdown online play, removing the rating system, but the server list and the ability to join servers has always been up, and the chat lobby is back up again.
