Had it ever occurred to you that at one point that perhaps YOUR not "Native English"? Do you even know what different nationalities have made up the "average white Englishman" over the years?
This thread is fun - Sun Readers vs. Daily Mail Readers vs. LibDem's.
youre right blacks should only doink other blacks... why should they mix their much more diverse immune system with the whites who never did anything for them?
So what makes a pure English person then? Going back the last couple of centuries I've got more Scottish and Welsh in me with a bit of English but I've lived in England all my life and both my parents were born and have always lived in England. I suppose I could say I'm 100% British for the last X centuries but as far as I'm concerned I'm English, and no flag waving BNP idiot would question that, although I've really got no more English blood in me than the average third generation Asian, who are obviously evil scum
Unfortunately due to the power of the media, I fear it may be the former that gets it, i mean how else does someone like Boris, who is a known liability with now ideas of his own, get elected to what is a powerful position other than the fact that he sometimes appears on "Have I Got News For You" and is funny (not at laughing with, more at)
The issue of immigration is a tough one for both sides to be fair. It seems as if you say anything against it the lefties call you a racist, while anything said by the left is dismissed as liberal bulls**t and lies by the right who then feed and encourage the paranoia and fear. Whats more because of this it will never be tackled properly by the big 3 parties who wouldn't touch this issue for fear of alienating one side, but by doing so only feed more and more people to the poisoned views of groups such as the BNP.
We had the BNP canvassing up here couple years ago, I had all good intentions of avoiding them but got caught by one of them and when asked a question I replied in German....he then spouted some vile racist crap at my direction, only for my friend, an off duty copper to call in a favour at the local cop shop and got the carted off for breach of the piece or something like that......I've never seen the fuzz get a round of applause before but i did that day.
Couple days latter there was an open letter printed in the local paper from the head of the BNP in the north, who decided it would be best to insult everyone by calling as back wards yokels who don't understand civilisation ans such. Classic stupidity.
Absolutely not, and interpreting my thoughts in such a way is a bit disturbing because my comparison was about things we have to pay for, and we're receiving what we took and gave (and it should be pretty clear if you read also my second sentence, which is clearly tied to the first one). Being scandalised because of immigration when the roots of it are in our own behaviour is hypocritical. I guess too many people are lazy and ignorant about their own history.
I think Becky was being sarcastic, Jack. National selfishness and pride are the root causes of so many of the problems we're faced with now, including Iraq and Palestine.
Looking back, I think everyone agrees now that it was the govt's error and the hippies were right, making love not war. Nobody who knows anything thinks Iraq and/or Afhanistan are different from the wrong and un-winnable Vietnam.
I feel far more threatened by our own goverment and its involvement with the US than I do about Europe. Europe is, right now, our LAST hope for some civil/human rights. If you actually examine what information the British government is freely sharing with the CIA about YOU, you'd freak, and the fact that you can now be extradicted to the US on request without so much as a hearing in the UK freaks me out. Your door to a US detention cell, no stops and no legal intervention. That this has been introduced and come into law AFTER Guantanamo Bay.. if it were not for the European pressure on the British govt to meet minimum European human rights standards, we'd be lost (and in fact we are, despite the pressure). And if you think the US wouldn't extradict you from the UK on a whim, then you've not been keeping up.
I think it was sarcasm, tbh.. Becky was meeting one stupid comment with a sardonic response.
Hmm, I maybe wrong, but wasnt that Tony blair that got us all involved with the US? If that is the case, Then surely Cameron(if he goes for PM) will be able to somehow control it?
The Tories have historically been pretty pally with right-wing US administrations. Look at Thatcher and Reagan in the '80s.
Actually, thinking about it, at least we haven't still got Thatcher and Reagan!
CP: I get the impression you haven't spoken to anyone who remembers the last period of Tory rule. My main memories of it involve mass unemployment and rioting. Oh and fear. I was more scared of Thatcher than I was of any TV/movie bogeyman when I was little. Because she was real.
The BNP might sound good to you, but just think of the other people that vote, they are skinheads, coldblooders who shout racial abuse in public, and can't sit still in the doctors waiting room cos a black person or a muslim just walked in. I agree, Immigrancy in the UK is definately over the top, but it's extremely ignorant to whine about Polish people, there is nothing wrong with them, they intergrate, they are friendly, they are hardworkers and more often than not, they are feeding family back home, and will eventually GO back to Poland.
You can't Ignore him just because he has a ponderment on whether BNP is a valid vote or not. It just shows your the ignorant one, he might disagree with YOU, but he didn't add you to HIS ignore list did he? He was happy to hear what you had to say, obviously you weren't happy to hear what he said, but if you got a problem with your computer or something and he knows the answer, you won't know, cos you blocked him and he seems the kind of guy to me who won't hold a grudge here on the forum anyway. It's wise to think 2 ways.
I remember Thatcher, I remember the poll tax riots, the miners strike, et all, and of course I remember The Falklands too (las islas maldivas). Her policies might've been a bit screwy on ocassion, but she was one tough bint and sometimes that was good. I think in hindsight the Conservatives did one term too many, we cant blame her individually for the economic depression at the time - it wasnt just a UK thing afterall.
Labour have done 2 terms too many, I have no flipping clue how so many morons voted them in after they warmongered in the Middle East. It's a national shame that we re-elected Blair. Personally I was ready to take up arms, at the time, and I wasnt the only one. I'll look back on their time in power later in my life as the time Britain came closest to revolution - there just wasnt anyone to rally behind.
I remember all of the Thatcher years. I'm that old. She was a dictator of the worst kind, and her "rule" was peppered with personal vendettas. She made Britain (read: The banks) a very wealthy nation, but at a mammoth cost to its people. She created an underclass that was so impoverished that they are still today unable to escape the poverty she created.
While this government has taken advantage of a widespread apathetic and disconnected political interest among people to peddle some extraordinarily draconian laws, and some of the most offensive sleaze ever seen in politics, I can attest that the Conservatives too have a long history of the same.
Quite frankly, the only party I would vote for in a general election is the ONLY one with the balls to turn around to the US and say NO to going to war in Iraq. Yes folks, the hard-line Lib Dems. The ONLY choice you have, if you ACTUALLY WANT change!!
Thank you, thank you!:throwroseI'd like to thank my...
This is the 2nd compliment for a post that I've had this week. I should go quiet, really, and let this illusion, that I sometimes make sense, run for an hour
He wasn't, at that point, pondering on whether the BNP is a valid vote or not. He was openly stating he approved of the BNP.
Please get your facts straight.
Luckily he's actually done some research now and realised what they really stand for, and all is well.
Had he been asking for advice on whether he should vote BNP then things would have been different.
There is nothing wrong in completely ignoring anyone who openly supports the BNP. I'm a tolerant person, but i draw the line with BNP supporters, and refuse to get into any sort of debate with them. This does not make me ignorant on any level.
I'm actually with both of you. Even though I never ignore anyone, the truth is that this is just because I don't ever want to miss an opportunity for merciless piss-taking
That being said, some opinions really defy reason and entertaining them is of no help to anyone. We've been covering the 9/11 conspiracy theories for a week or 2 now, and I've concluded that some people are just incapable of reason. In the thread, everyone (no exceptions) was able to process reason (even if some were determined not to), but there are some ideas out there that just don't have it. I found one or two that you just can't entertain.
For many, the BNP manifesto is so offensive and plain wrong (and devoid of actual reason, or balanced in any way with any facts) that, given a premise of an advanced and mature society, it has absolutely no place to be heard.
Here's one of the classic conspiracy theories that was just too ridiculous to take hold.. but look who's touting it! "Scholars For The Truth" http://youtube.com/watch?v=zXZUlJKg-Kg
