hi..

first of, thanks for a nice nice game..

but i think it would be a nice improvement if the driver models where more life like and could reach out for the gearlever when changin gears..
dont care about the feeds aint moving, cause i cant see them really them anyway

for me it sure would make the sim feel more life like when driving, insted of a doll that wont let go of the steering wheel...

when i think of it, the models could that in the earlier versions, right..?
if so, why has that been removed..?

all from me...

ps. sry for my bad english
If you use steering wheel, I recommend to hide the driver and steering wheel in the car, you have only one on your table so you don't need to see the driver changing gears.

For keyboard or mouse players, it will be good but this would cause lags during online racing and when you e.g. shifted from 1st to 2nd and then to 3rd gear quickly by a key press, the driver hand would not be as quick as you

By the way, this has been suggested before.
ohh ye, didnt thought of that...
but iam sure it would add a more real like feeling ind the game..

but the player model could shift the gear stick in the earlier versions, or am i wrong..?

if iam right, why has that then been removed..
It wouldn't add more realism to the game, it actually would take away because there will be lag when shifting, which I just realized was already typed! I don't know about earlier versions, but that would be why, go play rFactor (I think has this animation with their drivers), which totally sucks because when you shift the car there is a giant lag between the time the animation starts and stops... Shift multiple times and it can get bigger.

-1 as this suggestion will always be -1 from me!

Lets make this simulation more realistic physically rather than "visually".

It's not rFactor that does that.
Meh, there is some game I've played and didn't like due to the shifting lag.

I used to have the driver and wheel turned on, but tried it once with them off and I race far better like that. I think the problem was that I race with 400 degrees on my wheel but the drivers arms were moving the full 720/540/whatever and it was really distracting me.

If you've not tried it before, try it for half an hours laps or so and I bet you won't change back.
Its GTR2 that has it and on my PC I dont see how you think it lags at all? Unless you have a crappy slow PC with slow internet which makes it lag?

i think he means that, when you press the shift up, doesnt mean the the car shifts up at that that, it only sends an action to the player model to take his and off the wheel and hold the gear, change it and bring the hand back to the wheel. in that way, you would ratther change gear decaseconds later.

the improvement i see is that whe you shift the gear, it skips the ''takes hand off the wheel and grab the gear shifter'' part and start with him on the gear shifter already. that way theres no lag caused by the aimation and if he dowshifts sequentially very fast, the inly thing that happpens is the ha staying alil longer on the shifter and then coming back. i think i saw a game that does this but i dont remember wich.
with this ''skipping first part of shift aimation'' it would work for people that uses, lets say, a Hpattern shifter like the G25. when you ENGAGE the gear you want, the ingame model would just suddently appear on the gear shifter and (maybe ad the same momment) grab the wheel later.
that would make the immersion level go up i think.

EDIT: ''suddently appears on the shifter'' lets just say that hes very god damn fast with gear changing =D

Same here. Imo, its the way it feels more realistic of all. Makes you feel more that it's you who is driving the car.
its tdu that has the animations and i dont feel lag wioth my g25

Here we go again *sigh*

When people say the animation lags they DO NOT MEAN it has ANYTHING to do with internet connections or how fast your PC is. But for info the animations will lag even if you had a 10000000Ghz CPU with a GFX card that could raytrace in realtime.

Here is what people mean.... You reach for your gearstick and then start to shift. This is the first point where the game knows you are shifting so it then triggers the gear change animation so now you see the in game drivers arm move to the stick and change gear as you move your arm back to the wheel.

This is what people mean when they say lag, so AFTER you have changed gear you then watch the driver change gear.

MODS: PLEASE join this into the huge thread we had on this a little while back, it will save all this crap again.
