Keep LFS Sound when LFS is not in Focus
Simple question:

Is it possible to keep the sound LFS produces being heard, even when the LFS window is not in focus?

I need this because I am trying to use Fraps and LFS TV director at the same time. It all works apart from the sound.

Thanks.

I don't think this is possible because of the way the sound component was re-coded to be compatible with Windows Vista. FYI LFS used to have sound when not in focus, alas it is no more!
-1 for that suggestion for me anyway. I like the fact that when im doing other stuff on my pc I dont have LFS sound.
It'd need to be an option, because I wouldn't want that either.

I don't think it's possible tbh.
Wow, that is irritating. I would always find that feature useful, even when not making movies.

I'm nearly 100% sure that Scawen didn't have a choice, it was just a result of having to change from DirectSound.
Unlike others I am convinced it should be possible.

There's tons of other applications that somehow manage to output sound regardless being focused. And yes they utilize DirectSound as well. To name a few - Winamp, media players, tv tuner apps etc. Don't have idea how it needs to be done technically though.
Thanks everyone for your help. If I was to look for a program that could keep the LFS sound, what search criteria would I put into Google?
If I remember correctly from when I was tinkering with some DirectSound stuff, there are flags you can set to the buffer that control the way it acts when the app loses focus.

But to be honest I can't recall many games that do that - atleast ones that didn't prove to be annoying in the long run. Perhaps as an option when someone has LFS windowed and thus could probably be watching a race while doing something else it might be useful.

I'd look for a custom directsound dll (dsound.dll) that has sticky focus (or somehow like that it's called) enabled for the buffer and then put it in the LFS directory, much like you'd do with the d3d hijacking mods out there.

Thanks a lot. I have done a quick search, and it looks way over my head. It doesn't help that I can't even find DirectSound on my PC! Even if I could find the thing, I think the programming language (and the general lexis) these guys are using is exceptionally complicated. The search continues....
