New TV or Computer
Ok so my choices are.

A 41" Plasma flat screen TV

or

A New computer. Yet to decide on the specs but it will be new and useful
Should be a fairly obviously choice for you.

If you watch a lot of movies or TV, then the TV. If you play (or want to play) a lot of new games, then the computer. If it's an HDTV then there's not much point picking one up if you don't already have or aren't planning to get a HD player of some kind.

If you play, or want to play, new games and your current PC is more than a couple of years old, then get the PC. But there's no point getting a split new PC if the only thing you do is surf the net or play really old games.

If you do none of that, then save the money. If you do both, then flip a coin.

IMO, compromise slightly and do both. You can get/build a PC with decent enough specs and a smaller (37"?) LCD (don't get a plasma!!) HDTV for the price of a full-on "gamer's PC" and a 42" plasma.
TV is a waste of time, go for the computer (which is a waste of time aswell... but at least it's your choice how exactly you're wasting your time).
There's absolutely nothing to watch on TV nowadays (spelling?)
Lost, 24 (soon), Heroes, Dirt, Nip/Tuck, Cold Case, Dirty Sexy Money - there's a load of decent American series out there.Although this season of Heroes isn't quite as interesting as the first.

I got my 37" HDTV for about £300. It's unbranded but uses Samsung components (since my research showed that was the brand to go for) and it's been absolutely amazing so far. It's only 720p but since most things don't go to 1080p anyway, that'll do fine.

24" TFT + PC.

Lost, Heroes, Dirt, Nip/Tuck & Cold Case are all crap imo

However I secretly love Dirty Sexy Money and so after watching episode 1 on my 14" portable TV I grabbed 'em all off t'interweb and watched the HD versions on my 22" TFT. Mmmm...

I've just started watching Lost (yeah I'm a little late) but my girlfriend and I are hooked! We also watched Nip Tuck in Turkey, which we thought was also a good show.

There is soo much crap on these days (well, nothing's new), but some of the better current TV shows I think are up there with the best of all time. Little golden nuggets floating along in a sewer of mediocrity. Eww.

PS, go with the computer, and go for a nice monitor- something with a 1900 X 1200 res, so you can watch all those nice blu-ray movies at home.
Let's say it this way, there isn't any good stuff on TV that can't be found somewhere else. Apart from the fact that some countries even have to suffer on an idiotic synchronisation which kills the rest.

Apart from that: current fav TV is Dexter
There is very little on TV that would make me think 'I wish I had a 41" screen'.

But then there's not many compelling PC gaming titles around these days either.

I say book a holiday.

I'd say there are a lot of games that make me think 'I wish I had a 41" FullHD screen connected to my computer'
get a 32" viewsonic then pick up a new pc and plug the tv into it.
Some people have big problems in their life

Throw a coin if it's really that hard.

Not forgetting British stuff that is less over the top e.g. Waking The Dead, Hustle, Spooks etc.
What's wrong with your current TV and computer? If it ain't broken, don't fix it If you really can't decide what to do, send me the money
get a viewsonic tv and new pc parts viewsonic also make computer screens

What's so good about Viewsonic exactly? Yet again PLEASE don't post if you don't have a clue!

I'm more than happy to use my 32" CRT TV - they can be picked up cheap as chips nowadays as they are "old hat" but are fine for non-HD content
I have come across a 42" tele that acts as a monitor aswell. Get that and a PC base unit and your sorted.

NOTE: I will get a link once I stop typing on my iPod Touch.
Most gaming experts agree than CRT > LCD...But I still prefer my 19" HD TV/Monitor
Don't get a TV, everything on is a complete heap of crap. You can't turn a TV on without seeing

a) Graham Norton
b) Idiots
c) Crappy dramas
d) 'Ooh I can sing well' competitions

Oh thanks. From the guy that brings you "buy an alienware" we have a new option for "a or b?" which is "both!"

Please, Mr. Techno-Wonder, help me on this one...

I can buy a new phone (£200 - W960i) OR I can put the cash towards a car..

Wait - your answer will be both!

Please, ignore this fool. Do you NEED a 42"? Is your PC good enough for what you use it for? Do you have a source that's good enough quality to NEED a 42"?
Under what circumstances would you need a 42" Monitor? The average user sits 2 feet away from their monitor. That can't be good I even think my 19" is sometimes too much...

Jakg - why not get a car with a car phone? A + B
#24 - Jakg
Dougie - Trust me, you think your xx" monitor is "enough" but then you try something bigger. I used to use a 17", then tried a 19" for a few months. Had to go back to the 17" and within 2 days a larger monitor was in the post (a 22"). Now I sit in front of a 22" and a 2x 17" which is 56" (although very VERY wide) and it's still small lol.

EDIT - TBH I could probably afford both, but i'd like to have a car asap, but i really want this bloody phone. Grrrr!
TV is rubbish, but if you enjoy watching it, you can use your computer for that
