Server Command "Limit Speed"?
Alright, Some people in LFS host citydriving servers with speed limits in place.
Sadly alot of people don't care so they just go over it anyway.

Why not make a command that can limit a person/s speed to say 50 MPH.

It would be like having the Pit limiter on but not in a GTR Car.

It could also be usefull for other racing (Like balancing certain cars).

I know the test patches have a Limit air intake thing and add weight and ect but alot of people can still go over the limit.
Wouldn't that take what limited challenge there is out of the CnR servers? Not only could you not physically break the speed limits, but if by some miracle you did, you wouldn't be able to get away from the cops either.

I say no, because people manage to keep to speed limits (more or less) in real life without these limiters, and it wouldn't serve much of a wide purpose in LFS.

I know but I put 50 as an example. In city driving places they'd probably have it up to 90 or something...

Man I don't know. I wrote this when I was tired..
just limit cars to the smaller cars and give police GTR cars, if the police can't catch them the they don't deserve to catch them!

LFS is first and foremost a racing simulator the only circuit racing with speed limited vehicles (AFAIK) are T-cars and trucks, both of which are limited for safety reasons and seeing as there is no danger in sim racing having a speed limiter serves absolutely no purpose.
Putting a speed limit on cars completely anally rapes the whole purpose of citydriving and clc servers! The whole point is to be able to break the law and try to run from the cops! That's the fun in it.

As for real racing (balancing as you call it), I just don't see the point. Putting a top speed limit on a car doesn't limit its acceleration, handling, etc.

You must have been really tired, high, and drunk (all at the same time) when you wrote this. I hate to bash your ideas but they're just really not that good.
A guy I knew used to try this kind of thing all the time.

The teacher would always tell him he should just let everyone play the way they want, because he didn't own the sandpit

What is the limit on T-cars?

Remember that you will be able to put in restrictor plates in LFS in patch X.
but also qval races, on the formation it would make sure everyone sticked to it
Use insim then. Just display a message that says "overspeed - kick" to the person who is speeding. Then after 10 seconds, it would kick the player. Why bother asking the devs to put in a feature when you can yourself?

Congratulations. You've discovered the stupidity that is "citydriving" in LFS.

I think I was wrong about T cars having a limiter, maybe they're deliberately undergeared I remember reading somewhere they have a top speed of 90mph which would suggest they've got some kind of limiting factor on them I could be talking out my arse though.
i dont think it would work, even if it would i barely can see a good reason to have it implemented.
league races (or other organized races) have usually mature drivers which dont overtake in a warmup lap (or similar).
only for CNR? dont think so..
I think its a stupid idea, totally against the idea of of LFS. If you can't catch the bad guys, I suggest you get a FOX lol or maybe try to get faster lol... Speed limits is just plain silly... the idea of police chasing is in lfs disobey all the (fictional rules)... thats why they are sposed to be chasing you.

Prolly it's deliberate gear ratio sandbagging - however some motorcycles are limited to 300kph though, and Mercedes and BMW (I think) put limiters on their road cars

I think its some manufacturing law/agreement that all cars built in the EU are electronically limited to 155mph, don't quote me on this though but I think thats the case.

Nah, otherwise the Veyron would have to have be limited to 250 kph - it's limited to 250mph or so due to the tyres.

City driving is another thing that can be done (god knows why you'd want to drive around at speed limits....and even worse be so bothered that people ignore them you make a request) because of how good LFS is. LFS is a race sim I'd rather the devs work on improving this and not use their time on things like this.

Sorry, I just don't get it.
Soooooo. is it possible, type a command and there limiter is switched on

That would be the most stupid way ever to balance racing by just limiting the speed.

epic bump - it's a "Gentleman's Agreement" between German car manufacturers, although Porsche isn't part of this of this (iirc). I don't thing that Bugatti went for it either with the Veyron.
Also, there is a similar one limiting Japanese bikes to 299 km/h as well as the German 255 km/h limiters.

some cars get limited because if they didn't they would just wheel spin at the start line. this would be like trying to beat someone in the pits both with pit lane limiters
And what will cops do with no-one speeding?
"I arrest you for wishing you could break the speed limit".

If the owners of said "citydriving servers" wanted this option they don't need to wait for the LFS devs to implement it. They add maybe two/three lines of code to their inSim app and it's done, like was said "/kick xxxx". My guess is they don't want to stop people speeding. Some have made cash incentives to keep people to the limits, but if they want nobody over the limit then it's quite easy for them to change their program.
this could be implimented into racing servers. when there is a yellow flag all cars on track will have the limited on if they like it or not. and when that flag is gone all limiters go off
