I noticed today that i cant use my mouse when driving. It works ok when i am in the options menu during a race but if i decide i dont want car damage repaired during a pitstop for example i cant.
I have obviously deselected an option somewhere but i cant find it

You don't use the mouse for pitstop options (F12). It's all done via the arrow keys. If you're using the arrow keys to steer you need to use shift+arrows.

The F11 & F12 (where you can also de/select repairs) options are used with the keyboard. The only thing you use the mouse for is clicking on the connection list.
