tripple monitors question
i should be getting two 19" CRT monitors soon for free, they are the old connector. i would like to connect them with my 19" TFT monitor. my graphics card has 2 DVI ports.

what hardware do i need?

thanks,

By "old connector" I take it you mean VGA?

You can get converters to go from VGA -> DVI (for your GFX card), the cheapest way to do this would be to buy 2 (you can get 2 for around £2 delivered if you know where to look) adaptors, and then get a second cheap-o GFX card and use SoftTH to do the rest. Do you have any spare PCI-e slots on your mobo?

i have an SLI mobo, dont really wanna put another card in their which is different geforce 7600gs.

is there no like special thingies that will do it? i want this to be a cheap operation,

If you have an SLi mobo then you have 2x 8x+ PCI-e slots, which is good for SoftTH.

All you'd need to do is get a cheap second GFX card (I find the 6600GT is good - you can get them for less than £15 second hand, they don't have turbo crap and are still useful on their own).

You can get a standalone bit of kit to do it, a Matrox TripleHead2Go, but it's £150. The "cheap option" is to get a second graphics card and do SoftTH.

Why don't you want to put a second card in that's different?

I would worry that the 7600GS lacks the power to drive 3x screens, though

(FWIW atm i'm using a 6600GT and an 8800GTX for SoftTH - detailed specs are linked to in my sig)

This page should help.

The specs of the second card aren't important (within reason), as it's the main card that will do all the work.

I thought SLI had to use the same cards?

It does.

Where did I say in my post you'd be using SLi?
SoftTH isn't SLI, different cards are ok. In fact I'm running SoftTH with an 8800GTX and a 7100GS on a Crossfire mobo

Ahhh fair enough.
In fact you specifically do not want to enable SLI, otherwise only two of the monitors are going to work.
