Safety Car
had an idea whilst watching the monaco grand prix...

what about the addition of safety cars adn any other related features?
crashes would have to interfere with the race for a longer period of time maybe from debris, i.e parts falling off, stewards cleaning the track and cars might cease to work in the event of a big crash (afer all this does happen in most forms of racing) might make people more cautious going into t1 too? maybe tractors and cranes could be added to remove immobile cars from the circuit...

interested to see what people think!
If only there were automatic search results when you post a new thread title...

It has been suggested before and has been generally accepted as a good idea. The AI would work in it's current state since it wouldn't be trying to drive competitively.
The only problem is the game detecting when a situation is serious enough to require a pace car, or allowing admins to control them.

The issue of stewards seems a little over the top. It's probably a little more towards "bling" than is really needed - after all, who sees them? By the time it's safe for someone to go out and pick up large pieces of shrapnel, all the racing cars are long gone.

I'm all for a better way of getting cars out of sand traps and stuff as well, but it's about how practical it is to program. Do you want the animations of hooks being attached and cables being wrapped around as well? Because it might look silly without.

But it's all been suggested before. Sorry
this is his first post tho....

nice idea(just search first...)
I know, that's why I was nice. I don't tend to rip people a new one unless they really deserve it
point taken...but

would it not look better if you were driving past someone who had broken down or got stuck if they didnt just disappear but were hoisted over the barrier?
would it not also look better if parts of the car came off and affected drivers close by. ok you dont have to see the stewards and maybe it cud disappear after the next gap in the circuit but it would add more realism?
Oh absolutely. But I think there's quite a way to go before we have body parts that actually break off. The damage modelling is really just to show that you've crashed. Other than occasionally upset your suspension, it doesn't do anything.

I'd also have no problem with the pieces staying on the track for the duration of the race. It works fine in Forza 2, although it would be better if it was a danger rather than just something to get pushed around. Running over a wing mirror or a spoiler could take you off the track - now THAT would be cool

I had one too, take away all the car restrictions, then we'll really see who can build the best car.

There are plenty of racing series with close racing due to similar cars, formula 1 is currently boring, I'd rather see what they come up with to build the fastest cars they can without being hampered by "oh noes the fast cars are too fast!" restrictions.

And how is that relevnt to this thread, exactly? I wouldn't call this year boring at all.

An SC is a good idea, especially for leagues.

Quote :crashes would have to interfere with the race for a longer period of time maybe from debris, i.e parts falling off

Speculation has it that parts falling of may be on the horizon some time soon. We'll see.

Quote :, stewards cleaning the track

Visible marshalls would be a waste of frame rate.

Yes, but it's not really related.

I don't think visible tractors and snatch cranes are needed, just show the car being levitated over the barrier.

Related to the latter, cars that disco should be deemed as crashed and be snatch craned out under yellows.
