Right, let me start by saying I have never cruised and have no wish to start but.....

It seems to me that a lot of cruisers and drifters get flamed when they post by us racers, so wouldn't it be a good idea to have a section for cruising and drifting?

This would make the whole forum a much tidier and pleasant place to be IMHO. Cruisers could post to their hearts content without any risk of getting flamed as normal racers would have no reason to view this section and also have no right to jump in where the threads have nothing to do with them. ATM cruise and drift threads are taking up a huge amount of space in the beginners, general and team sections of the forum and I personally find it a pain in the ass having to wade through them to find normal threads that interests just racers, so can understand sometimes why people flame them so much...

As LFS is primarily a Race simulator I believe we shouldn't have to do this and also if the cruisers/drifters had their own section they would know exactly where to go for information...

Hope this hasn't been proposed before and I'm not just going over old ground here but what does everyone think?

Great minds think alike eh Didn't come up with that with the forums new feature of warning you before you post (great feature btw).

Won't that just steal more new racers and drag them into the deep depths of cruising? I used to cruise every day since i got s2. Now im finally back on CTRA, but still... I'd personally rather have more racers.

Not at all. It would make the whole forum more professional and pleasant as we would see a gigantic drop in flaming and a much cleaner forum. This would leave a much better impression on visitors to this site and the game in general. Also, the new people who are interested in cruising and drifting would know exactly where to go rather than the situation now which is, they post in beginners section, get flamed, then think fook this i'm off. This is not good for Scawen, the community or the development of LFS as they could have bought an S2 license, told their friends about it and Scawen could release a new patch after a well deserved and paid holiday by the proceeds

Seriously though, I think everyone who tries to push cruisers and drifters away from LFS are harming LFS in a way because of this point, and having a separate section would fix this negativity in one foul swoop...

Another point I would like to add is the real frustration racers feel haven't to read posts from drifters and cruisers who write in some kind of crazy text speak that no one can understand except their mates, and I'm pretty sure this has put off quite a few of the LFS old timers to see the community go this way. I have absolutely nothing against drifting or cruising but you have to admit that it seems like the majority of cruisers can't read or write. (Hint - use the dictionary addon in Firefox/IE please)

Anyway, I think this would benefit the three communities to implement this new forum section, and please don't tell me that Cruisers and Racers are not separated already, so why not do it?

cruisers and racers are only separated because racers started this separation. i frequently see racers respond aggressively to drifters/cruisers, and vice-versa. creating separate sections will only increase this feeling of contempt for the other types of driving.

Hmmmm, logic tells me it would decrease the "contempt" as you put it. As I said, I certainly have no "contempt" for anyone who cruises or drifts, and have proven this by having at least 4 members of our team who frequently cruise. In fact, you have motivated me to create a new group on our forum so they can do just what I'm asking for the LFS forum
I may not be interested in it myself but I imagine I would find it extremely helpful to find all cruise & drift related posts in one place. Maybe a big fat dose of positivity is what you need, and start looking at this idea in a positive, rather than a negative way. Hell, you never know, we might all even start getting along then, since the biggest complaint on this forum is the constant barrage (which is a testament to the popularity btw) of insignificant posts reaching the wrong people, which helps no one...

Maybe then cruisers would start flaming racers for "invading" their section though...

This has the potential to turn into WWIII. Missiles, flaming bananas,s and spam threads will be exchanged between sections daily.

Racers will be firing their CTRA-Type II anti cruise missiles, whilst the cruisers will be firing their LTC-CLC-Type II Race Disruption missiles

Or it could just turn into an all on all chair fight :chairs:

Then they would post in the appropriate section to what they are asking about or what the thread is about? Racing = Racing forum. Cruise/Drifting = Cruise/Drifting Forum

I can only speak for myself but I wouldn't want to see a drifting or cruising section anywhere here, a drifting section maybe, if I had a choice between having my balls stamped on but never a cruising section. Cruising is about as far away from what LFS is as you can get and should be kept that way.

For a racing simulator to have dedicated section to drifting and cruising in the official forums I think sends out the wrong message about LFS.

I think it's best if they just use their own forums and websites rather than have a section here for drifting and cruising.

I see that this idea is positive in some way and negative in the other way... First of all, positive is that there is a chance of minimazing spam, flaming and war threads.

But don't you think that this kind of separation would be like racism or so ? Cruisers and drifters are "special" ones and they should be kept away ? I don't think so ... i'm against the separation and i think that forum should stay the way it is right now. People who blame and "flame" eachother should be more reasonable and the problem would dissapear itself .

Why dont we just a single threaded forum.

The way its going, it will be a section, per thread.

I'm not against a drifting section, it is a form of motorsport that, while not specifically targeted by LFS, it does seem to cope for reasonably well. I'm not particularly for it either though, as there is no "racing section" either, per se.

Cruising on the other hand is not something that LFS supports, I see the inclusion of the cruise mode filter a way to hide them away from people using LFS properly. Having it on this forum (unlike any other LFS-related forum) would be seen as a act of officially supporting cruising which is something I strongly suspect the devs would not want.

Also it's harsh to lump drifters and cruisers together. Sure drifiting attracts idiots but there are some people who are genuinely professinol and passionate about it. I don't see how cruising could ever attract anything but idiots/bored people.
