Quote from mrfell :cheers

I must have drove over 100 miles that night taking mates here there and everywhere, just because you could...!!!!

Same here, but now I realized that it's not so economical for me. It's good for them, they're your friend, can't get money from them, soo... The more you travel them the better friend you will be.
Now I say my friends, that, "damn my father took my car" or "mum is doing the shopping right now" Waste of money to be honest, and petrol prices are just increasing in Hungary gradually...

Oh, almost forgot, Happy Birthday mate!
wow thanks for birthday messages guys
[showoff] Sorry guys, but I have a "Full House"...only thing I HAVEN'T got a full license to drive is a tank (or track-laying vehicle)...full list:

Cats A, B, BE, C, C1E, D, DE, D1E, f, k, l, n, p.

Held 'A' since 1971, and 'B' since 1972. Got the rest in 1982.

You can drive at 14 in the US. Ho-ly-crap.

I'm on my provisional licence at the moment, and when I pass my test I doubt I'll actually buy a car for about 4 years. But when I eventually do get a car, my insurance costs will be lower (I hope) because I will have been a qualified driver for a while.
Quote from danowat :In the EU, yes, but outside the EU its different.

Out side of the EU you need to have a full licence for four years. Although this was just when I was looking to get a rental in Canada. I suspect other countries have the same sort of rules.

I think that's a rule the rental business sets. I think you can drive wherever you want, more of a problem is which countries your insurance will cover.
Nope.....the law got me:drink:

This is true, as for insurance you can just pay a small fee for the extra cover.

The thought of 14 year old's being out on the road with me is scary.

Most 14 year olds you can't even trust not to run out in front of you on their bicycles....

You can't get a license at 14. It is 16 in the US. Though my thoughts were different way back in 1988, I think 16 is too young.

EDIT: Seems you can get a learner's permit at the age of 14 or 15 in some states. That's not the same as a driver's license though, thank goodness. License is still 16.

Edit 2: Whoops, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, South Carolina, are all age 15 for license. South Dakota is 14. WOW.
No wonder US cars are stupid-proof

What kind of 15 year old should hold a full license? That's just madness. It's 17 here, and after this summer, you'll have to be 18. Much as I hate to say it, that's the way it should be
So let's get this straight...

Give someone under 21 booze is a big no-no, he'll be a huge danger for himself.
But hey, why not put a 15 year old in a 2 tonne truck so he can be a danger to everyone!?
i hold a junior rallycross leisence but im going for my learner permit soon....

Heh, I'm licensed to drive heavy duty machinery, and I'm 16

According to the Irish government, you need to be older and more mature to drive a car, than a 50 tonne fully loaded tractor and trailer. Hmm...

LOL living in the country a lot of people 'round here have traacors (Suffolkian version of a tractor), I can think of at least two of my friends who've either crashed a tractor into a ditch "help! help! which ones the bra- *CRUNCH*" or managed to destroy a wall while reversing a trailer...

You do that off the road though, that is the difference, I've driven farm equipment before, and from memory you can start legally driving it at 13. Just not on any public roads.

Exactly, those things have HUGE blind spots...and the brakes are near useless with a fully loaded trailer...

You can't drive here off the road at 13 I don't think. I have a full heavy work vehicle license, which means I can drive 'em on the road. It covers me on basically anything except cars and trucks. Yet I can't have a full car license for another 6 months...
Tractors are often allowed because they have a limit of 25 mph.
Back in the day here, you could drive a tractor without a license, on the road. That changed now and you have to be a certain age (don't know how old), and then you can get a specific tractor license.
Quote from Jakg :In New Zealand it's something like 13 / 14 to drive a car and insurance is NOT mandatory (!)
.

It's 15 in Kiwiland, still too young but I got my bike & car license then.

Been driving now for 30 years and still managed to avoid losing the trusty license, although only through some very slick talking some years ago, got myself off overtaking on a double yellow on the bike. If I'd had the ticket it would have been bye bye for six months.
I love points !, although here there are no points for speed camera's. But their never a major with a bike. Just use 2 or 3 different helmets !
I'm on a provisonal licence and want to learn...but it's having the money to that's the problem. Damn minimum wage...

Whats the licence system around the countries? Some places sound different then Australia.

Here we start off with:

Learner Licence (L's) which you can get at the age of 16 and need for atleast 12months. Must have a full licence front seat passenger to teach you, illegal to drive without one. Have to fill out a log book that needs times, dates, number plates, licence numbers, odometer readings, how many hours done. When i got my L's, only needed to do 50hours. Now its 120 hours with 20 hours have to be night time.
Provisional Licence (RED) (Red P's) which you can drive alone and can get minimum age of 17. After 11pm til 5am, can only have 1 passenger under the age of 21. Need for i think also 12 months or i think 18 if you have had any offence.
Provisional Licence (GREEN) (Green P's) which is the next licence up. Same as Red P's but you can have any amount of passengers that the car can fit. Need for 18 or 24months roughly.
Full Licence (BLACK) (Blacks) which is a full licence that you get after your Green P's. On them for afew years. Licence doesnt expire.
Full Licence (GOLD) (Golds) which is the same as blacks but just 1 up.

Your Learner and Provision licences all expire roughly 6months after you can upgrade, each has a test ofcourse, but your only DRIVING test is going from Learners to Red P's. After that, its all computer tests.

Im on my red P's now and can go for Green P's roughly January next year. My licence is currently suspended!
I have my Provisional, which is a learner's permit. And yes, at nearly 28 years old I decided I figured it was time I learned

My band rehearsals are a 35 minute drive away, but right now it takes me 90 minutes to get there. So it's really going to make the music life a lot easier. I'll be able to take all my gear as well, and make it to gigs wherever they are without having to spend loads of money on train tickets.

Now I just need to pay off the credit card so I can book some lessons
No. A few years to young. Can't wait until I do though!
I dont on the momnet alsmost 17 then 1 years wait to de legaly to go and practice for one and eventualy get one

But stil wil go for my bike then I wil buy a car but only for imposible distances and track days
