The Pace Car is for formation laps and rolling starts and the safety car for cautions... but if you already have called it Pace Car they stay at the name...

to answer your question: No, there is not any real difference between safety car and pace car. Pace Car is mostly used as term in the States, Safety Car in the europe my state of information!
