Routers and ports
Hi guys

I've a question, might be quiet stupid, but anyway

I'm playing the game Europa Universalis 2 online, normally only with my grandparents and they've a simple pc with adsl internet connection. Now I took the game with me past hollidays at my home to play it here on my pc. Instal works, game works, no problems. Just a online play problem. I can connect to channel lists to see the hosts, versions, player chat....... But if I click 'join' it says "can't find a host on that ip adress". If I host a game, people can't join with me, and then they get that same error.

I did some research and it is a router/port problem. I found some urls in the EU2 forum about it also. Now I must change my ports, if I get it correctly, how can I do that ? It says contact ISP, .. But I don't know who my ISP is, my dad takes care of all that . But since playing online games for hours during school time isn't something my parents want me to do, I've to do it secretly. Now, see the "errr..Houston we've got a problem" ?

Is there anyway I can adjust those ports myself ?
Does changing my router ports have any effect on the rest of the 'server group' I'm connected to ?
What are all sorts of possible concequences of changing the ports ? (security, unstable server network by it, lag, dno ...)

Are these problems also known in LFS ? or completly past time ?

Thanks ahead,
GC, the sneaky gaming addict
Depends what router you have mate, one more thing is that to be able to forward ports from your router your PC must have a static LAN IP, also if you are doing direct IP to IP type game you will probably also need a static WAN IP too.

A lot of this is explained here, in this very usefull site > http://www.portforward.com/eng ... orwarding/routerindex.htm

Dan,

I think I'll just have to go beg subtile with my dad to change some stuff , or quit playing EU2 online

Thing is, it isn't all so hard as it looks..but my dad wants me to learn it all by myself, and he never explains something to me! So I'm trying...slowly but steady
