Sup guys After some racing in Redline Racing 3 with Bf1 in AS3 (great combo guys, dont let the server die) i decided to check out lfs world, havent been in there for ages. So i go in there and got to the teams page to see anything new, and i just started going through teh websites of the teams and saw some really cool ones. Now i am thinking, how do they do it? Do they code it themselves or do they use some kind of CMS, i know one Php-Fusion, but its getting old now and out of date/looks.

So any guys having any ideas or even the team members could reveal some of their secrets on their team website? Would be kindly appreciated

Thanks
Joomlaaa!!!!!!

The dSRC team site is custom.. no CMS for me / us (too much bloat for my liking)

No "out of the box" web site is ever going to do _exactly_ what you want without some hacking.. so why not just start from scratch (especially considering the complexity (or lack of) for your average team site). IMO, CMS-derived sites all have the "samey samey" look and feel to them.. even when people "change" the themes, they don't really, they just update some colours and images, the actual _design_ 99.9% of the time stays the same.

Well, we use PHP Fusion and are satisfied with it.

To clarify..dSRC has a tame coder that eats PHP flavoured cornflakes for breakfast, and thinks that a pearl (perl) lightbulb is a useful item

(j/k Ian...you are OK really! )

Same theology behind vMaxSR. If you have the available skillset, this is the way to go.

Peregrinus uses Simple Machine Forums with a mini-CMS called TinyPortal which effectively goes over the top of it and gives it the appearance and features of a big heavy CMS.

Works well for us!!
Can someone tell me a bit about Joomla please ? do you have to get your own domain first ?

Joomla doesn't require this (I doubt any other CMS will either), but most hosts do as you'd obviously need to get your site hosted somewhere, but for the price of a domain name, it's really nothing IMO (I pay $6.99 for the first year for my domains, $7.99 to renew them). One added bonus is that you "own it" (or at least lease it).. so things like e-mail addresses don't expire when you change ISPs and the likes and if you change host, you can point the domain to the new host (just don't use 1&1!).

As for Joomla itself, it's just a standard CMS. Not much to really say, although it is one of the better ones available I think from the limited look I've had along with Drupal (Drupal is a bit more complicated though).

the problem with CMS' is that as soon as you hack them to do what you want you make upgrading hard, and not upgrading leaves you prone to known and often published security exploits.

I have run sites of various kinds for years and have had CMS sites hacked 3 times.
i see, thanks. Taking a look now on Joomla
Joomla. Is what almost everyone uses. But as Ian explained. Blah blah. and Becky Rose said. They can get hacked easily. You have to becareful with them. I messed up my first installation of Joomla! by changing the config.
I had quite a few php-fusion sites, but now that i tried Joomla and had a play with it (dont get it wrong ) i like it more. Thanks again guys
