Quote from franky500 :EDIT: scratch that... TH84 is Wrong!!! ... to heat up bacon IS cooking, as you "Cook" it through, on the packaging it states "Cooking" guidelines... not "heating" guidelines as th84 would suggest

Normally I would tend to agree with that... HOWEVER, on my bacon packages it states, "PREPARE", not cook! Im gonna make it real simple for you terd tents....... If you can throw anything on a plate/pan/pot or any other food preparing device and not have to add anything, or even turn the damn thing, that is not cooking.

There is a big diffrence between warming something up, and cooking something. What a bunch of morons.

BTW, I just boiled myself some water so I could make some tea... did I just cook that water? After all, I did heat it up!

Felix, I dont eat pop-tarts, but If I did, that still isnt cooking.....unless my toaster was hanging upside down from the ceiling at the time of preperation (sp?)!

cook
1.
to prepare (food) by the use of heat, as by boiling, baking, or roasting.

I don't think there are any donkeys around here... but good luck to you

#30 - th84
You turn your bacon during preparation? You sir, are a weirdo!

You really shouldnt talk so bad about donkeys, we used to have a jackass in our team. :P
In all seriousness, Will sumo ever return?

Yes, to ensure that my bacon is Thouroughly cooked on both sides.

your obviously rubbing it too hard

But, if you just stick the stuff in the microwave you would have hands free preparation, without the need to turn.

only an idiot would use a microwave for their bacon. a real Bacon cooker sticks it in a frying pan! so on the Microwave bit i agree. if you microwave you did not cook that bacon.!

Ah HA!!! I win. Stick that up your noob holes!

I will ignore the first part of that post. I always use the microwave when preparing bacon. It is delicious!
Cutting off a cow's calf muscle with a butcher knife and throwing it on the grill with a blend of fine spices.

That's cooking.
#38 - th84
That is true, but only if you put some BBQ sauce on that calf muscle. Just a plain calf would only be considered grilling, not cooking!

OMG. Not this discussion again.

If you have to use heat (directly, or, yes, indirectly on the food) in some way to prepare a meal, you're cooking. End of discussion. Nikka has spoken. Now move along. Nothing more to see here.

edit: uhm. no we're not.. i lost my db scheme so i have a little trouble reverse engineer it... brb

editalalamentastico: we're up and down at the moment... a little unstable but we're getting there.
Quote from th84 :BTW, I just boiled myself some water so I could make some tea... did I just cook that water?

If the nature of the food being heated changes during the heating process, it's cooking. If it doesn't, it isn't. If your water came out of the kettle looking opaque or brown or thicker in some way then yes you did cook something, and you need to clean your damn kettle.

Quote from th84 :I always use the microwave when preparing bacon. It is delicious!

I think the word you're looking for is "disgraceful". The best part of cooking bacon is the way the bacon smell permeates the house and makes everybody hungry. Two minutes in a microwave isn't going to do the business.

You can be such a yank sometimes, Tommy.
#47 - th84
Ummm, actually Im always a yank, what are you trying to say?

BTW, I microwave (I almost said cook ) my bacon for no less than 5 minutes... and the smell still goes through the house like a bad fart.

I didnt think it was odd at all, typical noob involved thread if you ask me.

Microwaving bacon. Dude, you won't find any other country where people will contentedly microwave bacon like it's a perfectly normal thing to do! I suppose once you've microwaved a burrito, anything goes.

OK, you've piqued my curiosity. How does it look when it comes out? I'm imagining it very dry, covered in dried salt, but still with white rubbery fat along the edge. I can't help thinking my pan-fried bacon looks (And smells! And tastes!) a good deal more appetising.

I dont know if it is a normal thing to do or not. It works for me. Yes, I have microwaved a Burrito. I dont think there are many things I havent microwaved. If you had a chick like mine, you would do a lot of nuking too.

It looks no diffrent than fried bacon does. The key is to use a certain kind of plate that allows the grease to build up at the bottom. Its not much diffrent looking or tasting than if it was prepared any other way. It basically ends up frying in its own grease. It can be a bit dry, but only if over prepared. It also takes care of the fat on the sides as well. Give it a try some time, it can make a mess of the microwave, but its worth it! Im also very picky about the type of bacon I use. It has to be thick sliced bacon. Nuking thin sliced bacon will cause it to vanish!

/end microwave class

EDIT: I never said that it tastes or looks BETTER than pan-fried bacon. It is just easier for me. It makes a mess pan-frying bacon, and I would probably have to clean that shit up. When I do it in the microwave, all I have to do is close the door and BAM, its clean.

EDIT #2: This is probably my longest post ever on this forum, and it is about bacon! LOL, damn noob.
