What could be the cause of my low FPS? (triple screens)
I just upgraded my PC video card from an 8800GTX to a GTX280. The max FPS is the exact same, but now the quality doesnt matter... I can put everything at the absolute lowest settings and it will give me 35-40FPS on hot lapping.. or if I go everything max'd my FPS stays the exact same, 35-40..

Since I installed my video card I also get a static sound associated with the engine rev's... wtf? it sounds like I have a bad ground on my car stereo lol..

System:

Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8GHZ ---OC'd---> to 2.66
2GB Mushkin DDR2 ram
Nvidia GTX280
Nvidia 8400GS
2 x 150GB Western Digital Raptors Raid-0
Windows Vista Premium 32-bit
SoftTH
3 x 22 inch samsung monitors.

Both rFactor's and Age of Conan's FPS skyrocketed when I put the new card in, I can now play rFactor at 5240x1050 with everything in the game set at absolute max and I get 50-60FPS non-stop... Age of Conan shot up from 45FPS to 85-100 as well.. but LFS stayed the exact same other than the fact I can run it at higher quality now.. but even at the same quality the FPS did not move up at all?

JakG if you read this, you always talk about turbocache? I'm pretty sure my card has it, would that have anything to do with it?

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

you do have the top line card here but the limiting factor is your CPU itself. A better quad or the new wolfdales with bigger cache mem. and higher clocks will do it right for the cpu

EDIT: the other games are more on the graphics side while lfs's physics engine crunches cpu to bits rather than use gpu.

EDIT-2: If you can go higher clocks than that, it will help a bit more but since you have the money invest on a new cpu and in addition see if the new drivers might help you out or not (not sure about this one)

TurboCache isn't great, but i'm geussing your using SoftTH? I always had a low FPS (ALWAYS 30-45 FPS even in a full grid) which I think is down to SoftTH i think.

Theres a version 1.08 out on the SoftTH forum (as a pre-release) which should improve performance.

Your CPU should be fine - a Quad wont help you at all in LFS.
I am debating about going to the 790i Ultra chipset with a 3.0GHZ 6MB cache Core 2 Duo and DDR3... Either 2 or 4GB, the only thing is if I go 4GB I have 1.5GB video memory now so I need to go with 64bit Vista.. I'm worried about what games won't work, since this is a gaming rig.

I just find it a bit odd that I can run Age of Conan triple screen at the same FPS as LFS... rFactor runs smooth as butter now... but like anik360 was saying maybe it's just my clock speed or maybe I have hit the limitations of SoftTH.

Oh how I wish someone would relase a proper hardware device that would properly support higher resolution widescreen monitor. Get off your ass Matrox, support for a TripleHead2Go Y2K widescreen edition is what we need so I can go triple SLI

If your going Vista, you will notice a big improvment with 4GB over 2GB IMHO Vista is more memory hungry than XP. That CPU is very good - get a decent cooler for it and you could overclock it for even more performance in "CPU dependent" games such as LFS

LOL Vapochill is extreme for you - you'd need to insulate your mobo etc, and the chips burn out fast.

Why you'd want a 790i ultra mobo I have NO Idea - keep your DDR2, stick to Intel chipsets (they are better unlesss you NEED SLi), and get a proper TripleHead2Go.

The only reason I don't want TripleHead2Go is the resolutions... I would take such a big hit...

The reason I was thinking that m/b is with that 3.0GHZ chip, that cooler on the CPU.. water cooling on the M/B and Video card and DDR3 ram I should be able to over clock it like crazy..

I might be able to get into windows at 5.0GHZ...hahaha can you imagine how pissed i'd be if I got it to 5.0GHZ and loaded LFS and was still running at 38 FPS hahahahahah, ok, lets not go there, it's just bad luck.

TH2G Digital version now supports reso's over 5000 pixels wide .
