Interest in TBO class on Race 2
At the moment my goal is to become better at the STD class cars of race 1 then eventually move to the Race 2 and drive the TBO class. A few friends that I actively test/practice/race with have shown interest in the TBO class and have spoken about trying to populate Race 2 in the evenings (U.S. time). This of course once we feel satisfied with our performance in the STD class. I can't comment on the current state of the Race 2 server, because I have never participated on that server before.

The point of my post is to express interest in the TBO class on Race 2 in the very near future. Not to try and persuade change in way the server is currently configure/operated since not experiencing Race 2 gives me no right to such an opinion yet.

EDIT: Changes in TEST PATCH Y30 :
......
Lowered centre of gravity and updated rear suspension of XRT and RB4
......

Wonder how this will effect performance of these cars?

The CTRA admins discussed Race2 the other night, when Dru raised the question. We agreed that a review was needed. Becky's post is very much on the nose, regarding the LRF. We've known for some time that the LRF, despite substantial support on the forum, enjoys absolutely no support in public pickup racing. We tried the mixed-class, but it hasn't worked out.

LRF is now, finally (and permanently) dropped from the classes supported by the CTRA X-System.

We are now looking at possibly limiting access to Race 1 for Silver+ licencees daily during peak hours. We are happy with allowing those racers to race on Race 1, but not if doing so means that the racers for whom that server is specifically FOR, cannot get a race. We have to find a solution that is fair, and we think limiting access by time of day/popularity of server is the best option.
Sam, thank you very much. I hope this works out. TBO is slightly better balanced in new test patch, so we're looking forward to even better racing, but FXO is still class leader. It should get live in patch Z.

I think this should be specially announced, so everyone knows that good old days are coming back!
Let me be the first to say, BOOOOOOO

Sorry Dan.. it was just not sustainable. I've been bloody-minded about supporting LRF for a long time, despite a complete absence of any justification for it.
AAARGH! My point scoring days on the TBOs are finished! I need to learn how to race now. What a drag.

Kind of sad to see the LRF go but I believe it's for the best.
Finally. I was very disappointed when I got silver and could finally go race the TBO's only to find an empty server, or had to keep an eye constantly on LRF racers that inevitably influence my race but were not competing with me. If there was anyone racing in the TBO class with me

Allthough I think the LX6 feels like a nice car, its a step too far if you haven't got any experience with it. Thats why I was thinking about replacing the UF-BR with the LX4. Maybe change it monthly to one of the lesser driven cars just for a change. UF-BR was a bit fun and a nice distraction in the beginning but everything has to come to an end. So why not rotate that server with different cars monthly or so?

What!!!!!!! Replace the UF-BR? I bloody well hope not. Especially as it's having somewhat of a resurgence at the moment. It's the third most populated server in recent weeks, and it never fails to amaze me what bloody good close racing it produces with the right people at the wheel.

Here's my most recent race while were on the subject. A mini classic (excuse the pun ) I love this little car

Wow, that's some top notch racing! Really fun to watch. I've never raced the UF-BR, and I've only done a handful of laps with its unrestricted counterpart. I actually didn't know CTRA had this UF-BR server Must have been introduced while I was on involuntary LFS hiatus and wasn't checking the forums. I've seen the car mentioned here and there but never really looked into it.

I'm surprised to see the tyres on that thing don't get warm at all. At the end of the race they were still well below optimum temperature, yours as well as Martini's.

That's probably more to do with a less than perfect setup (both using the same one iirc), but still the rears very rarely see much heat at all with any setup tbh.
Now if we could just get the Nat Bs and above out of SS1 and into SS2. However, in this case I suspect that a preference for the FBM may be a factor, as well as the availability of racing in SS1.

We've coded up a version of the software that will do some management of Race 1 during busy times, when necessary. It's a per-server configuration option, so if it's successful in Race 1 and it becomes apparent that it's needed in SS 1 as well, we'll turn it on there too.

I'd like to test it first before unleashing it, though.. I don't want it to go all ED-209 on everyone. When we get a chance this week..
"please leave the server, you have 15 seconds to comply"!!!!

Exactly! LOL!
I truely hope the message will be accompanied with the god awfull tune by.......was it "Silver bullet" or something?
Is it not possible for ctra to use the current test patch ?
on server 2 ?

CTRA is public-facing and the majority of people racing CTRA never visit the forums and don't know about test patches so it would all just vanish if we used Y30. Also, it's not designed to run different versions of LFS per individual CTRA server, because things like ban files are common across all servers, so it's not an option.

da da da da da da da da da da da da da da BETA testers! if required... or get scipy to re-do all his recent good work

I am assuming that the NON-busy times will be my timezone, eh Sam?

Certainly hope so, for the sake of both high level racers and bronze/copper racers .

I guess everyone assumes that people follow the crowd and assumes that their opinion of the best racing is in the TBO class holds true for everyone. I'm not in RACE 1 so I can be so 1337 and beat the "noobs", nor am I following the crowd (even though it is the only 1 of 2 or maybe 3 servers that have anyone racing), but I'm in RACE 1 so that I can race the GTi, where my opinion is that it is the best and closest racing .

You do indeed live in a non-busy timezone I've coded so that we can specify a time period, say between 7pm and 10pm BST(GMT+1) where, IF there are more than a specified number of starters in a race, all drivers of a specified licence or above are unable to join the race. All criteria must be met, so it's extremely unlikely that you'll be kicked out of a race that's in your timezone AND busy

We don't want to prevent people from racing in Race 1, no matter what licence they hold. Crucially, that's the point. During peak times, copper and bronze racers are being prevented access because there just isn't room for them. There are 3 other places for Platinum and Gold licenced racers to go, even within the X-System, so we need to prioritize access for the lower licenced drivers.
I think that's a brilliant solution.
Yeah, nice idea, hopefully the TBO server will get back to it's old population figures.

so where can we all see the new TBO server stats that shows that it is full 24/7...

....i've only seen Void on it so far

Was Endu day yesterday...21 laps at SO Long

Before that we had a few at AS North, Sokke was doing well in his FXO but I was about a second too slow in my XRT

I haven't seen anyone on it Granted, during the week I've only got a couple of hours in the evening where I can check the servers but it seems to me there's even less people on now. The LRF's may not have filled the servers, but the few people who actually prefer them usually went on Race2, thus "inviting" other people to join, too. Now they have no reason to do so anymore.

I'm curious to see if the people who complained the most about the LRF's being included (you know who you are) will actually race more on Race2 now Haven't seen them on so far. I've seen 1 of them join last weekend - before the LRF's were excluded - when there were a handful of TBO racers and no LRF's racing, but he quit a few laps in the race when I was gaining on him, with the excuse that "his set was too crappy"
