No, what I meant was that I wouldn't bring up the the ideea of also asking wich is better to see why someone would buy rFactor in the first place on the LFS forum because it wouldn't be fair to rFactor and it would have been clear who would win that poll. For complete fairness a man should post that question on a game journalist's forum, neutral ground for both games.
It's always been this way. I only have Rfactor for the eye candy (though sometimes thats debatable), and the real cars and tracks, other than that LFS wins it every time for me.
The main "plus point" of rF is Physics - sure, some (if not a lot) have been made by "feel" (read - hmmm, this Enzo doesn't seem fast enough. Let's make it 5% more grippy. Perfect!), however some have been done very VERY well. GTR's physics are closed off whereas Todd / niels will happily rip rF mods to shreds and improve them. For me, LFS is better, but if I had the cash i'd buy rF as I feel for the "odd blast" it'd be better for me ().
but thats the problem... rf has one good active modder and it took him and others (forgot who made the realfeel mode but iirc it was an lfser as well) over 2 years to make rf remotely enjoyable... its kinda like nkp without all the stringing (really crappy pun intended) customers along with youtube videos bs and a somewhat happy ending
More than two years, rF has clear routes in SCGT and all the ISI games that followed, ISI still haven't put logical data in and every ISI engine developer has fallen into the same traps again and again despite claims of real data from tyre companies, having said that I e-mailed several tyre companies asking some technical questions whilst doing the DBR9 tyres and Goodyear seemed to think that there was a curve of reaction force vs. slip angle printed on the side wall of their tyres and worse still Yokohama believe in the sudden drop off nonsense!
I wanna buy it and try it simply to drive my favorite cars around legendary tracks. Or to try the F1 cars in F1 tracks. It's just out of curiousity too.
Fact of the matter is that in the right environment, with the right mod and with the right kind of people on the grid, rFactor offers tons of fun. I have gone through mods that where plain and utter bad, but also found real treasures, like the V8 Supercars, the DTM 2007 and the recently released Historic GT & Touring Car mod.
I do not chose between LFS and rFactor, I race them both. I do it to have fun and variation and that is all that should matter. These constant "My sim is better than yours" threads does nothing good. There is room for both these Sims on the market, and they both deserve to be raced. Those who can't see that lose out on on a lot and should probably be pitied.
Yes it does ,JJ72, don't forget this is the off-topic section of the forum. People should be able to ask anything from who won the F1 Championship to is Ben Affleck an idiot. You are defecating on one of the principle rules of democracy ,the right to freedom of speech, so basicaly you don't agree with this international law.
X-ter I never ever mentioned the words "rFactor is badder then LFS" I just wanted to know why people chose to play rFactor and I found out from some of you who threated this thread with seriousness, thanks.
lolz, well... Simbin bought the rights to use the rFactor engine for GTR so it's pretty much the other way around. I gather they actually approached LFS first but that option was closed to them at the time, and they've since started work on their own engine because they are not happy with rFactor.
With mods rFactor can be extremely atmospheric, the problem is that despite the marketting it is not natively moddable. The game uses proprietry formats for everything and was sold with a collection of fantasy tracks and cars on the basis that getting users to make content would result in the game simulating all the things the authors didnt want to make licences for. To make this happen they released tools to export to their proprietry format and slapped the word "customisable" into all their marketing.
The only reason rFactor has mods is because there is no better engine to mod and because, although awkward, it is possible.
It's mod handling is diabolical with no automatic update of mods for online play, and mod incompatabilities because - well, they had not thought modding through when they released the game they just reacting to a marketing opportunity and released their tools.
Anyway rFactor does have a lot of mods, and some of them are very good. Many of them aren't though, with peculiar consequences like some tracks having no working pits (a bit of a bugger when you setup a race weekend only to find 30 minutes in that its all gone to pot).
Well some people don't buy both or only LFS, some buy rFactor .So from what I heard, it's biggest ally is also it's biggest enemy, the modding, wright?(off-topic)So we could have had a GTR with the LFS engine, damn, that would have been cool but I guess it was never ment to happen and at that time LFS pretty much did the good thing(off-topic).If i remember correct LFS also had a few car mods that never was published because the devs didn't wanted them ,I remember a Mazda prototype and a Ferrari F40.
You are arguing about "democracy" and "free speech" because someone said your an idiot and shouldn't make threads. Where's THEIR right to "free speech"? I'm sure if he shew JJ72 some democracy (i.e. in the form of a poll, like "Is BAMBO an idiot?") he'd get the hang of it.
As Becky already wrote, GTL and GTR2 are derivatives of rfactor (and GTR from EA F1Ch) and not the other way around.
The key word is "immersion". rfactor is way more immersive than LFS and with the proper mods, realfeel ffb and a G25 it can even beat LFS in many areas, including handling!
You can't easily beat the experience of driving, full manually, an 1976 escort rs or a Porsche GT3 RSR on "the Mother"!
