How many corners challenge!
Right, I drive across the Canterbury planes into the edge of Christchurch near the airport each day to work. The total distance each way is about 54Km.

The plain have VERY sparse population density and lots of straight road. Lets see who can guess closest to the number of corners I have to take in the journey door to door.

We also need to define what a corner means. Is is a 10degrees kink in the road? 5deg?

I have never really counted so this should be interesting, how many corner per/Km lol

The longest straight road on the plains in about 30Kn without a corner at all. I am happy to say I dont have to take that road, its a nightmare
I drive a similar distance and have 38 corners from memory so if you say yours is relatively straight I'd guess 23?
21 corners and 3 jumps!
19?

EDIT: I've been doing some detective work - i'm guessing around 12.

My journey to work averages 8 corners per mile (1 mile to work, and 8 corners).

I'm guessing you have about 8 corners for your entire journey to work?

Do corners include or exclude turning to avoid wildlife?
3 too my school (3x90°)

I will count on the way home tonight

One question becomes how much of a kink is required before it becomes a corner? 10deg change, 15 etc.

I will work on any change in direction

OOoo, a variable. This could get complicated.
Omg a dingo!! Careful!

Edit: Doh I saw an australian flag... whatever, 32 turns.

I would say anytime you have to turn left or right (apart from avoiding something) would be a corner.

Anyway, my guess is 18.
Thirteen corners from garage to work. I travel mostly on the Interstate.
I'd say about 17.

I personally only take two, not counting pulling in to work. I only like like 2 miles away. I usually walk.
I live in the US. I clamp my steering wheel straight, set the cruise control to 55 mph, set my watch alarm to 24 minutes, and take a nap going to work. The 24 minute alarm allows me to wake up 1 minute before arriving to work....

nooooooo Its an NZ flag. Dont confuse the West Island with NZ lol

BTW: Didnt come back my normal route so will count on the way in.

I am just glad I do not have to drive Tram Road 32Km straight line.
Btw i counted the corners on my way to work (only to find out the garage was closed for some reason...:really and it totaled to...

...36!

Country roads FTW!
I have 20 turns in 6 miles.
i turn a total of 3 turns including turn into work, takes me about 20 mins
11 to my scool and takes me ~7 min to get there on my bicycle
From my house to my work? Three.

Right off my drive, right onto the main road, 500 yards straight on, left into the building.
So far away!

Wow, a lot more than I realised. A total of 38 in 54Km including the turn out of my drive and the turn into the carpark.

The first 20km has about 4 corners but there are a fair number of S bend kinks that brings the number up.

so my average is 1 corner per 1.42Km
When I did my work experience with a vet a couple of weeks back, we had to drive the same route every day. It's around an hour between every client, and takes around 6 hours to drive, not including stops at the clients. And she drives that same route every day, and has done for 3 years  It's proper Irish country road too, so that's grass down the middle, and a corner every ~100 yards. I actually fell asleep for part of it mid-way through the week.

Around 200 corners, easily, for the journey
How about videos? I had planned on fabbing up a little camera mount since I got my new digital last Christmas. It take quite nice 640x480 video at 30 FPS.

I turn out of the driveway.
Turn off my road.
Turn off that road onto the main road.
Drive straight.
Drive straight.
Drive straight.
Drive straight.
Small bend.
Drive straight.
Drive straight.
Another somewhat larger bend.
Drive straight.
Drive straight.
etc, etc.
And finally turn off the main road and twist the wheel back and forth while also driving up and down. It's windy, wouldn't really call them corners though.

I must admit, some of what I counted as corners was a bit of a streach but otherwise I might have argued loads away

Some were probably 5deg turns in road direction. I based on the fact that if I could look at side of the road in the distance and see the direction change at a point it was a corner.
