The online racing simulator
Ok, back on topic....

I don't know when this change occured. I race in shift-F mode. Previous, I would select one of the F9-12 keys to display tire temps, pit options, whichever. As a race progressed, I would shift-F again to view the info.

The other day I was racing shift-F style and pressed F12 to check for forced pit and immediately, my shift-F mode was canceled and the screen HUD and the F12 info was displayed.

I don't know if I like it or not, as I use to have the F9-12 function activated and shift-F'ed with a wheel button when I felt the need and time occured that I wanted to view it.

You of course can hit your shift-F again and go back to no info displayed after the fact. It just surprised me when all HUD and F12 info was immediately displayed. It happened to me during one of the later Y test patches. I do not believe this function was there in the full Y release.
Quote from dawesdust_12 :Yes, because the forum is now practicing censorship to give the faux illusion that all is "Happy Happy, Joy Joy" here, which I think is crap. Sure it was OT, but deleting it was worse. Moderation should have moved it to a new (locked) topic, not gone all censor on it by deleting it.

Apparently open criticism is no longer welcome on these forums, as is demonstrated by Ian's new member title.

Great job guys... Thumbs up

Why are you assuming that this is a place for you to exercise free speech? Let's say that you don't like a certain newspaper. You send them a letter criticizing them and want it to be put up in the "letters from readers" section. They don't do it. Is that in violation of your right for free speech? I think not. You have all the rights in the world for expressing you views. But this is a place of business for the LFS team. And if you go into someones place of business and start badmouthing and criticizing them in front of their clients, then you should always expect to be promptly expelled. That's what happened here, isn't it!

Finally, a genuine unlisted change in the unlisted changes thread.

I didn't notice it until I had already used it 3-4 times, so I guess it's sort of intuitive as it is now. Before I used to just cycle through the overlays with the HUD hidden so they were invisible and then turn the HUD on to see the active one but occasionally, since they were invisible, I'd lose track and cycle to the next one. I think the idea is sound - if you're going to request an overlay might as well get it with one button press instead of two.

Auto mode switching so F9 to F12 / N / SHIFT+L work even if hidden

Words coming out of your mouth but they don't mean anything... (or are incredibly hard to understand)

Besides, if I have pressed F9 while in shift+f mode, wouldn't it be more convinient to return to shift+f mode by pressing F9 again? Why would I want to see all the overlay crap if I've turned it off before?
i think lfs progress is at a good rate i like the stuff they have been giving us for only 1 payment Big grin back on topic the xfg feels easer to drive for me for some reason Razz

Bugger. So that's what that meant.

Ah well - still no unlisted change then.

If you try to make programs too clever, or even telepathic, it doesn't work. Gotta keep it simple, then it stays usable. And now it just gives you whatever you want with one keypress. That is a definite improvement and if you knew what it was like before, then you'd know it was an improvement. Before, if you pressed F9 in SHIFT+F mode, then NOTHING would have happened! The user didn't know what mode switching they were doing behind the hidden HUD.

If you want easy access to remove the HUD, just program, say... F8 key to the text "/shift F".

Just tested, it works, now F8 can hide my HUD with one key press. LFS is quite programmable...

I agree with aspects on both sides of the argument.
The only thing that confused me with this was when HUD kept reappearing when I was making FRAPs recordings (F9 was my 'start recording button'). Anyway, when I worked out what was happening I just changed it to a differernt key and moved on. Big grin

I suppose little things like this will alway make some people happy and others a little inconvenienced. Shrug
Whoohoo! Scawen responded directly to a post of mine!!!!

LOL.

Actually, I believe he personally made a personal appearance in the S2 0.5L demo server I was in to tell us all that S2 full was being released back then in 2005....

Believe it or not, I read through the list before posting my comment, just to be sure it wasn't there. Even after Scawen himself quoted the text and showed the link to the list, I read it again and still missed it. Finally saw it on the 3rd attempt at looking through the list. That's quite a list, hehehe.

My earlier post wasn't a complaint like the others (just want to make that clear). It doesn't matter one way or another. Shift-F is programed on the wheel for easy access. I had always press an F key in preparation to view the menu sometime in the near future with a quick hit of the shift-F button when I wanted to see it. Now it just automatically pops up the HUD. Simple remedy, another quick hit of the button and I'm back to shift-F view until I need to see the menu.

I think that what he meant is probably:

If the user is in hidden HUD (hH) mode then pressing F9 once could toggle the whole HUD and show the tyre temp overlay and pressing again would switch the whole HUD off right away since the user is knowingly in hH mode, thus eliminating the need to press another button to return to the display mode they were in previously. Pressing any other info overlay button cycles to it, if one is pressed twice it turns off both the overlay and the HUD.

That way it's consistent to the way it works now when the user is not in hH mode.

But anyhow - having two wheel buttons (cycle through overlays & toggle hH) mapped as has been required since the inclusion of the scripting system is no big deal.
It seems like The XR road cars have a bigger exchaust verry big one indeed

The XRG looks sort of race car Ish
Hehe, I found an unlisted change! Tilt

If you scroll down the list of hosts while it is still checking for hosts, it stays where it is, and doesn't keep moving downwards.

In other words, when you scroll to host number X, with name Y in the list, it doesn't just keep host number X at the top of the screen. It keeps name Y at the top. Don't know if that makes sense... anyway it's quite helpful when you are searching by name because it doesn't keep running away from you. Nod

There are other unlisted changes, I did delete / not add ones I thought were not too interesting to read. Full stops and colons are now made of circles instead of squares... that might sound a bit silly on a list of changes. Schwitz

So is this some sort of unofficial competition then ?
