New video card advice please
Hello, I'm after a bit of advice, please.

I think my video card has failed (GEFORCE 7900GTX). I've reinstalled windows and tried new drivers to no avail. Safe mode is my only option for displaying anything on screen now and artifacts have been a bugbear playing LFS for quite a while. My system is about 2 and a half years old and since buying it I haven't kept up with current computer hardware developments (only a quick look on the Internet in the last couple of days).
I'm hoping that with about £300ish to spend I can get a new video card that is equal or better than my 7900GTX. Recommendations, anyone?
Do I have to worry about backwards compatibility of newer cards with my motherboard and power connections to a new video card?
This computer is used solely for LFS and in the near future I'm thinking of using a 3-monitor set-up (3 x (1280 x 1024)) via a Triplehead unit.
Thanks in advance to anyone with information to get me racing again.

You could get something like an 8800GT (eVGA models can be had for less than £90 at Pixmania), but imo if you spent much more than that your CPU will hold you back, and you can't upgrade your CPU to anything faster so you'd need a new mobo, too, and some new memory as well (although with £300 you could end up with an Intel Quad Core and 4 GB of RAM...)

FWIW an 8800GT is twice the speed of a 7900GTX
Thanks for the advise. I'm quite happy spending £200 less . Just as long as LFS runs smoothly now and in the foreseeable future across 3 screens at high graphics settings I'm also happy (new computer when it doesn't).

I'm not going to get any card power supply connection problems then?

In the world of computing is an FX60 now considered a steam powered relic?

Depends on what PSU you have.

(BTW - i'd recommend an ATi 4850 not an 8800GT actually - i need to "get with the times")
