Using a LAN
Hi

I have purchased a licence to use S2 and setup a server so i can race against work mates.

We are not allowed to use the internet connection during lunch so my question is can LFS S2 be used without having to connect to the master server

Thanks
as far as i know yes, just type in the network address of the person hosting the local server
Yes, but you MUST have a valid LAN range, 192.168.X.X

Dan,
Still the same
Thanks

my server system is 192.168.0.172 and the other machines are 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2

If i connect to the internet it works but if the connection is closed (Lunch time) the server says no master server

I have looked through every thread and it seems to be a regular problem with some saying it should work and some saying it will not.
I don't get it...If you are making a LAN server like you say, you don't need to connect to the master server. All you have to do is make sure that LFS is installed on all computers (Doesn't matter if you use the same LFS account name or not) , host the game on your computer, then have your buddies connect to it

Of course, I forgot how to connect to a LAN ... lemme check

Well yeah, you have to click multiplayer, then join specific game, and enter the LAN address of the computer that's hosting.
Make sure you select "LOCAL" instead of "INTERNET", it works, I know it does, I use it at work every lunchtime

How long does your lunchtime break last?
I usually need some 20 minutes to ''warm up'' first...
Still Trying
Does it make a difference running the server and lfs on the same machine.

As soon as out net connection is cut off, and i run the server i just get a ? then 30 seconds later i get "Could not connect to master server"

As soon as the net connection runs its all ok
write out the EXACT steps you did from starting up LFS.exe
then at least we might be able to see the problem
Works
Hi

Thanks Danowat.

I think other may be interested in the reason. Until Danowat wrote the instructions looking through the forums several people said the first run a server so i found dedi_s2 server and was trying to run that not realising that LFS is a server in its own right when not connecting via the net.

Yes it was rather stupid but its so easy when someone take the time to write out step by step instructions.

Now all we have to do is learn to drive
No worries, glad it helped, maybe it could be pinned somewhere for future reference?.
