Could someone please clarify exactly what constitutes being 'off track' to the extent that you are then rejoining traffic?
All 4 wheels off? More than 1/2 car?
And are curbs & 'grass-crete' included in the track, or is it based always on the magic white line?
It's more about the differential in speed between the cars than anything else, if you emerge onto the track having just had a quick picnic and somebody else is aiming for the same piece of tarmac then it isnt really their fault you just gave Blackwood a carbon fibre space program...
If you have all four wheels off the black stuff then you need to be very careful rejoining, but the main thing is the speed you are travelling at and the blind spot in your mirrors. If you have just left the circuit you can usually rejoin back where you were and expect the gap you left to still be there, provided you've kept your speed up.
Just try to be aware of the other cars around you whenever your tyres are driving on green stuff.
Ok, thanks, that is what I would expect, but I don't know what I did wrong here: ReportID=16148
Apparently, that was my fault. I agree I was off line & had lost pace, but what else could I have done, but keep my car in control & completely to the side of the track? Does the faster car have the right of way?
Whilst this is not the place to discuss reports and the conclusions of them, the CTRA Admins agreed totally that the result of 'report dismissed' is completley correct.
Also, you have said above that it's 'your fault' - no one has said that and there is no mention of that in any CTRA admin text.
The report you made against the other driver was dismissed. This means either that that driver is not to blame or it is a racing accident.
Where is the correct place to discuss reports? I've looked around, but this seems the only place.
I didn't particularly post to discuss this incident, but was curious whether anyone shared my opinions that the general standard of racing on CTRA servers, in terms of fairness, is pretty low. There are several drivers who are always clean & fair, but they stand out from the crowd for that fact. I always try to be fair & avoid crashes - both my own & other peoples. I make mistakes like anyone, but if I feel someone else lost out because of my mistake, I'll do as the rules suggest & put it right. It just seems there are few people who do the same.
In the case of this report, really I have nothing against the other driver & don't expect them to receive a penalty, it's just a typical example where someone gained through their 'mistake' where another lost out & an *apology* would have been nice.
Maybe I expect too much?
Yes, I was also disappointed that the admin did imply that I was to blame - I was apparently 'driving erratically' and 'effectively rejoining traffic' (which we just agreed above wasn't the case), while the incident was 'most certainly not attributed to' the other driver. If this was a racing incident & neither driver to blame, then was it necessary to make these statements?
If the balance of blame lies with me, then how could I have avoided this?
I accept that it probably falls into the category of 'racing incident', but I was under the impression that the following car isn't supposed to follow through with throttle planted regardless of who or what is in front of them.
Or do I need to modify my driving style to fit in?
You filed a report against another driver. The report against that driver was dismissed because the accident was not caused by him.
Although the admin response in the report doesn't say so directly, looking at the replay the accident was definitely caused BY YOU. The driver that you reported was ON the racing line. You were NOT on the racing line, you were off the line, you were almost completely off the track, and you were off the racing pace. You returned to the track in the path of the other driver and you collided with him. And you are expecting an apology from him? And you expect him to pull over and wait for you? No, that is not acceptable. You are wrong.
And you insist that the general standard of behaviour on CTRA servers is low? Really? Where was your apology to the other driver, when you collided with him while you were trying to recover? All I see is a report that you filed against him, that was quite rightly dismissed.
You say, now, that you don't expect the other driver to receive a penalty. So then, I ask, WHY did you file a report against him, and WHY are you complaining that the report that you filed against him was dismissed? What is it that you want, that is not what you have got? Really, what is it?
Oh, and you DID post to discuss this report. It's EXACTLY why you posted. We're not stupid.
Hell no. If anything, the drivers who aren't clean and fair stand out from the crowd. Racing on Race 2 is a lot fairer and better than on almost all other (semi-)public servers.
I'm dissapointed because your a driver that stood out to me as being fast fair and sporting and seemed nice when I raced you on the server. Seeing this thread is very dissapointing.
I've watched the incident, I dont see it as a going off track issue at all. You lost control as happens, you tried to keep it and the driver behind took the opportunity to pass you - there isn't a race driver in the world who wouldn't have. You lost it mate, it happens, blame it on low blood sugar if you must, but not the other driver.
Everyone else who's posted is exactly right, but since no one else has specifically answered this question, I will. You could have avoided this incident by not going wide and leaving the track. Simple as that.
That's not to say that your driving was bad or that you deserve some kind of sanction. But your slip is what caused the accident. There is no way the other driver could have avoided hitting you there.
Even with the best drivers, accidents sometimes happen. That's what happened here. If you hadn't brought it up, no one would be discussing "fault" or "blame" in this case. But since you did, the fault occurred when you failed to exit the turn perfectly.
Ok, I'm sorry this has turned out this way, I probably shouldn't have posted. Yes, I was just ranting as I felt I was wronged. I drive to improve my driving, not criticise others. This was my intention, even if I didn't make that clear.
I love to drive on the CTRA servers - in fact I don't drive anywhere else and I always *try my best* to race clean & fair & hope all others do the same. I always treat others with equal respect on track.
I hate to make reports & have only done so in the past for obvious wreckers.
The fact that the reports system is there & works it great, so thankyou. Please don't think I'm ungrateful for it.
Sam.H sorry, I've clearly made you angry. That was never my intention. I guess I felt aggrieved, so sorry for my apparent tone. I wasn't trying to suggest anyone was stupid.
Why did I report? - I genuinely believed he was in the wrong. I watched the replay over & over from both points of view. Had I been driving the other car, I would consider myself at fault in that situation.
What do I want? Just clean & fair races where people win with skill & not brute force.
Why did I post? The implication in the report was that I caused the collision by rejoining the track in front of another car.
If I was off track & rejoining, then I accept full responsibility, but I didn't believe this was the case & this still seems unclear.
Thankyou for saying so. I always try to be all those. I didn't intend this
thread to turn out so bad. I usually stay well away from forums...
Well I know I got the corner wrong. I have no problem with being passed, I'm no points whore, I just don't like to end up punted off the track. Seems I read the situation differently than others.
