dan12s is gettnig the same soon, im fitting it for him
nVidia here. Currently a 7900GS Extreme.
I want to upgrade to 8-series but they're still a little out of our price range
That's fair enough, but my girlfriend would complain if I didn't upgrade hers at the same time. So everything I buy I need to get 2 of. And unfortunately that takes us into "just too expensive" territory
lol fair enough, how about if you put a slightly cheaper one in hers
I'm not that mean. And she'd notice anyway. Our PCs are identical so if I was getting a top frame rate and she wasn't, she'd know something was up
ah ok, does she race lfs as well then ??
No, but she does use a lot of the stuff that I do. Or I guess in the case of EQ I use something she does. I don't want to go "hey look, I've got shadows on and it's at full detail and I'm still get 60fps!" while she's going "then how come mine is struggling at 15?" because that way lies an argument

We have a garden needing £300 of work done (/sob) and I'm about to start driving lessons then buy a car, and the 7900s are still more than enough for what we use the PC for 99% of the time. I keep looking at dual core CPUs and new gfx cards, but there are other things need sorted first. Unfortunately
2600hd iirc, but ati isnt the brand of the card, only of the chip, the card's from sapphire iirc.
i've got an inno 3d 8600 gt the 216mb one.

It's an ATi, Sapphire just use the licensed design.

You mean a 256 MB one, unless your card is running something crazy like a 108-bit bus...
i have an Intel GMA 945 shipset 224mb shared, now

i will get the ATI Radeon HD4850 512MB
Nvidia XFX 8800GTS 640mb
XFX GeForce 9600GT XXX Alpha Dog ed.
i just got my new pc with ATI radeon HD4850 512mb, it runs most games on max settings, but Colin Mcrae DiRT i can run 1680x1050 all high and 4xAA
ATI Radeon HD 3870 here.

My history:
Trident 1Mb in a Pentium 150Mhz
3DFX Jazz Voodoo Rush 6Mb
GeForce 256 32Mb Leadtek
GeForce 2MX 32Mb ELSA
GeForce FX 5200 XFX 128 Bits
ATI 9600 Pro
ATI 9800 Pro
ATI X800 Pro@16 Pipes w/Zalman Heatpipes
GeForce 7300GT 128Mb GDD3 Leadtek
ATI X1650XT
GeForce 7900GT (horrible Video quality)
ATI X1900XT
ATI X800GTO2
ATI HD 3870 GDDR4

The most I loved were the X800s ones, with VIVO support. They are awesome for LFS

I absolutely prefer ATI, great Video Quality.

Log:
Matrox {something}
No idea,
Sapphire ATi Radeon 9000 Pro (with a 1.1 GHz Duron it was a beast - maxxed NFS:STFU!),
Sapphire ATi Radeon 9600XT 128MB,
2x XFX nVidia 6600GT's 256MB (In SLi, which never worked),
Gainward nVidia 7950GT 256MB "Golden Sample",

Asus 6600GT "Silencer" (Second card added for SoftTH).
Log eh? In case anyone is bored enough to read it:

* Unknown EISA 1MB SVGA card, no 2D acceleration (on a Contaq motherboard, oh yeah) - that was 4 times the normal memory capacity back then!
* IBM (?) integrated 1MB (PCI era) - back when USB ports were first coming out
* S3 Virge integrated 1MB
* something else for about two weeks, might have been 3D, PCI or AGP
* nVidia RIVA TNT2 AGP 32MB
* nVidia GeForce 2 MX AGP 32MB
* nVidia GeForce 3 Ti200 AGP 64MB
* ATI Radeon 9100 AGP 128MB
* ATI Radeon 9200 AGP 64MB (for second system)
* nVidia GeForce 6600GT AGP 128MB

* ATI Radeon X700 PCIe 128MB (secondary card in main system), with Arctic Cooling Accelero S2 (passive)
# ATI Radeon HD 4870 PCIe 512MB - not bought yet, but planning to
Nvidia. It's a Geforce FX5200.

btw ain't the "other" option missing? I remember before this one i had a SiS Xabre 400...
so you should also add Kyro...
Good topic mines were as follows :
- some integrated thing in my 486
- riva TNT
- Sapphire ATi 9600XT (128 MB,now in my friends PC )
- Sapphire ATi X1650PRO (512MB,still in my PC)
- ATi Mobility Radeon HD2600 (512 MB,in my notebook)
ATi FTW
Nvidia 6800 GT that has been running at > 100 degrees celcius for several months. Can play LFS fine for 3-5 laps until it starts to struggle.
Nvidia 8800 GTS 512.

Great card and nVidia are going nuts with the driver releases lately, Crysis extremely playable now at 1900x1200 with the latest 177.41 betas- I'm gonna be sticking with this card for awhile, methinks...
