Careful, my girlfriend is from Norfolk and she's neither inbred nor a dumpling
I still think its stupid to assign a paper where you have to argue for one side, rather than give a balanced arguement for both sides and reach a logical conclusion. Its not actually going to teach them anything, might as well just say "No, they are not too irresponsible to drive, the end.".
Quote from Jakg :LOL.

Norfolk - Inbreeding.

Suffolk - Suffolk Punch.

'nuff said.

(and Danowat comes from Norfolk )

A Ipswich fan and a Norwich fan are in the pub watching the 6 O'clock news. A man is shown threatening to jump of a bridge. The Ipswich fan bets the Norwich fan £20 that he wont jump. The Norwich fan quickly takes the bet. Sure enough the man jumps. So the Ipswich fan reluctantly hands over the £20. The Norwich fan says to him "I can't take this" But the Ipswich fan replies "No, a bets a bet. You won it, so take the money." The Norwich fan then confesses. "Listen, I have to admit that I saw the 5 O'clock news, so can't take your money." The Ipswich fan replies, "So did I, but never thought he would jump again"!!!

I lived just outside Norwich for 10 years, so I am rooting for Norfolk in the Norfolk vs Suffolk showdown

Yeah, I agree. As soon as you set out to try and show something is true, you will of course be biased, and only present the evidence that supports your side of the argument. And yeah, it's not going to teach anyone anything, because it will obviously not be objective.
We (Norfolk) also have The Broads. And more coastline. Plus Norwich is a much nicer city (CITY) than Ipswich town (TOWN - not a cathedral in sight)...

You'll note that Norfolk has one of the most famous car marques located within it - Lotus. Suffolk might have car makers, but none so well known.

Norfolk sounds, as it rolls off the tongue, as though it has a certain charm. Suffolk just sounds sullen, bitter and poorly educated.

The 'joke' Michael posted was in fact true too.

Meh, i've got a Proton garage down the road, that'll do.

I must confess that Uni wise Norfolk wins.
I agree about Lotus! One of the best bits about living in Norfolk for me was that for my high school work experience I spent a week working at the Lotus factory A couple of days were working in the engine test cells testing 3.5L V8s that were going in Esprits, one day was spent stripping down a car for crash testing, and then the last two days were spent with a guy working on suspension settings for an Elise and then going out for rides on the track with him. Matthew Becker also took me for a few laps in an Elise which was an experience I will never forget.

Yay Norfolk!
Lotus, being owned by Proton, also have a Proton thing on the Hethel site. So I also have a Proton garage down the road, and that cancels out your Proton garage

Shame most work experience sucks nowadays - mine was hands-on, but this year the closest anyone got to hands-on experience was when they were nicking stuff from Tesco's!

Suffolk has.... Greene King...?
What did Norfolk give us? Delia and Trisha Goddard.

But Suffolk did worse. Bernie and Nick Griffin!
worryingly im with Tristian on this.. i tend to enjoy a week on the broads every so often

(but being a londoner i guess i am more easily impressed when i see anything remotely... remote).

Young people are too irresponsible to drive, and this is coming from a 17 year old with a driving license. I see far too many friends doing the showing off thing, writing off cars and people in the process. I think im fairly not bad, im better than the average idiot who boots it everywhere because i love my car and the freedom it brings and would hate to lose it along with my license, but ive caught myself out a few times thinking "awk ill be fine" which caused a few near misses. I would have been devastated if the driving age had been increased before i got the chance but it is probably for the best.
Norfolk is the home of cows, turnips, dodgy farmers and Alan Partridge...

Can't say I agree with the minimum age being made to 23. Having grown up with cars and bikes, I'd say I'm fairly experienced in driving. Yet in a car on the road (haven't tried a bike yet, we've no road bike at home now...women :rolleyes I'm fairly meek. I don't dawdle, but I'm not your stereotype boy racer either. When I'm on the desterted country back roads, I do tend to open the taps a bit, but well within my limits. I rarely even get near the speed limit on back roads, although it is 100KM/H here I'd imagine I'd go a lot faster on a bike, I much prefer the feel of bikes

Although the minimum age for >125 bikes is 18 here, and under 18 you need to be on <125, with <11 kW output...
i didnt read the hole thread but i dont agree with it being irresponsibilty i think the main reason young drivers crash more then older ones is when we are young we follow the rules we are tought and this cause's crash's. personaly i have been driving cars since i was 7 didnt get my licence till i was 22 and i was not ready for the amount of dangerous older drivers out their in brisbane alone the majorty of people tail gating speeding and changing lanes without singals and such are OLDER people but young people dont know that this happends and cause's crash's.I have had many close calls due to people turning into my lane cuting me off without signals and other bad driving habbits now i refuse to drive my car on public roads unless i have to.

BTW i have never crashed a car that I have Owned and im 26

oh and DeKo in response to ur comment
these young HOONS they call them in australia are normaly only trying to make up for their own inseciruty's or they are just show off wankers ALOT of my friends dont do stupid stuff in public aera's
if you want to do dumb stuff on the roads at least take it to industrial aera when no one is around!
Same i didnt read much..

They should be a lot more stricter on people who is doing there driving licenses, or atleast re-test some!

At the moment i think i am a better driver than some out there and im only 14
Mi opinion is very simple gouverment's that let poeple younger then 18 drive don't realy know what there doing.
Their not even realy giving them any feeling of responsibillatie and lack of comon road sence
if u see al the accidents unvolving young drivers you might se my point.

I think ther should at the very least be some kind of test atleast once very 2 years to se if u can keep ur licence

And its a opinion so im not tring to insult anybuddy and yes
I am to stuborn to cros over to the other side

Most drivers think their better than average, that's the problem.

Driving wise, no idea, but i'd imagine I have average or better than average car control skills over the limit as i've actually learned things like counter-steering instinctively.

Counter-steering is instinctive for most people. It's natural to steer in the direction the driver wants to go. So in an oversteer situation, drivers will instinctively counter-steer. The issue is the magnitude and accuracy of the counter-steer, and detecting when the car is about to regain traction so it doesn't fishtail.
personaly i think to fix the issue on the roads is re testing every 5 years

and mandatory Advanced driver training every 3 years (ie learning how to controle a car when its sliding and such. and allso make more place's people can go to have fun in their cars
It is quite disappointing that you only have to give this paper from one side of the story, what's that going to teach anybody?

Really it comes down to the person behind the wheel, not the age group. I'm not a perfect driver by any means, sure I've made some silly mistakes, but I'm quite observant of what's going on around me, that alone has allowed me to avoid quite a few ignorant Gold Coast drivers.

I have mates who prefer to dance & stuff around behind the wheel, glancing at the road once every 10-15 seconds, in between CD changes, Text messages & other bullshit.

How they haven't managed to kill themselves or anyone else is beyond me, dumb luck perhaps.
lol wizard cops still close down brodie havent been to the coast on a cruise in over a year
Haha, Broadie is horrible for that, I try and stay as far from the spit/BWCP as possible, though BWCP is getting rebuilt or some shit? :/
yer i heard that but i avoide the HOLE GC cops dont like me very much i normaly head up MT nebo and summerset Mt samson way with the SAU guys.

the cops are stupid for making certant mods ilegal!
Police don't make stuff illegal
Regarding the age progressions on the previous page, an interesting age progression, and one that could do with addressing is:

17 - Fight for the army
18 - Actually get to vote for who's army you are fighting.

Where i live we're allowed to

Vote
Smoke
Have Sex
Get Married

All before the age of 18. And that first one requires responsibility.
They give us responsibility by letting us vote, but then kinda take it back by not letting us drive before the age of 18 :S

And the others, well pah they dont require responsibility. But pah
