POWERBOOST
Each car is equipped with a unique PowerBoost system, a mechanism to provide short bursts of increased power to create additional overtaking opportunities and action throughout the race. By changing the engine’s parameters, the system can give the driver additional power over a limited time during each race to take the A1GP Powered by Ferrari car to 600 bhp.

The PowerBoost is driver-activated by a button mounted on the steering wheel. The driver will be able to use this for a predetermined period during the Sprint and Feature races.

selves one make race is a good place to test a new technology on track, why don't they put a KERS tune down model on it?

why would they wanted to put KERS in an A1GP~?

it's just so costly and uneffective in an one make race...
because A1 said " Think Greener Racing"
KERS is not even working in F1 yet.

Interesting to see how this A1 car compares to GP2... shouldn't it be clearly faster?

because it not even work in F1, so Ferrari can make many data in A1 if they want, like bridgestone make data of US GP in Indy car in 2005.
I think new A1 is faster than GP2 clearly, but slower than F1 & CCWS
In the new Autosport they mention that they have added one of those stupid shark fin engine covers to that car, so that sponsors have more room for advertising.

Quote from scania :because A1 said " Think Greener Racing"

doesn't mean they would be "smart" enough to slap on a KERS system...
that ain't the only way to go "green"...
Quote from scania :selves one make race is a good place to test a new technology on track, why don't they put a KERS tune down model on it?

Because currently the rules of A1GP dictate the usage of a powerboost function and no mention of a KERS system. It has nothing to do with being greener.

If they are using an 04 spec F1 car(with 600hp) then it would smash CCWS to hell.

A1 GP will be the 2nd fastest open wheeler series in the world(and rightfully too i say).

yeah and unforunately CCWS doesn't exist any more so we won't need to worry about them too~

A1GP, the second fastest open wheeler series along with the second-rated drivers.

They should try steal people away from GP2 to get in these cars i think it would be a much greater prospect as these cars are much more similar to F1 cars.

Not to mention we might be able to get talent from it unlike GP2(except say hamilton who didn't really need to do GP2 and Rosberg).
talking of kers, did you see that a bmw mechanic got an eletric shock from theirs whilst testing?

opens up a whole new area of saftey problems in a crash, especially if they use capacitors to store power

Unfortunately A1GP focuses more on teams than drivers. However it is a good place for drivers to get themselves noticed in one-off races (in far off places ).

Nico Hulkenberg got noticed in A1GP, and he is testing for Williams now (might even score a race seat in 2009 or 2010).

Unfortunately Alexandre Premat didn't get far, even though he kicked ass.

I wouldn't be so sure. CCWS engines produced around 750 BHP, and had quite a lot of downforce.

The new A1GP cars would probably be faster around corners, but I think the last CCWS car (the Panoz DP01) would have been faster on straights.
leading lms with audi??? not bad imo.

2004 spec cars were the fastest F1 cars so far though(mainly due to power but had more downforce then in 05).

I'd find it highly amusing if the new A1GP car proves to be faster than current or 2009 F1 cars.

Will the A1GP calendar run any races in CCWS or F1 circuits? A comparison of qualifying lap times would be interesting.
Well now that Silverstone is free there has been some whispers about A1GP racing there, but to be honest I can't see that happening, because Brands is always a sell out. I don't think they actually race on any F1 tracks at the moment, they race on old ones, which is one reason why I love it so much.

In 04 though they had around 900hp though.

Remember it has "only" 600 hp. If you've seen any test times from Jerez where F1 teams have tested slicks with "simulated" '09 downforce levels, the times are not much slower if not faster. I don't know how accurately they can "simulate" '09 spec aero though.

Sepang at least: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2 ... ix_season#Season_calendar
Slightly off topic, but this news is worth posting.

If he raced, even just for one event, it would be amazing. Perfect series from him to race in too, its all about fan enjoyment and access, unlike F1 where its an exclusive closed off club.

It would be good, i mean really good, but i highly doubt he would be fast.
The powerboost thing sounds like a very good idea. Would be cool to have a car with that option in LFS.
no, no nawz
Quote from Maelstrom :The powerboost thing sounds like a very good idea. Would be cool to have a car with that option in LFS.

Champ Cars, A1GP, Formula Palmer-Audi, have powerboost features.

I'd love to see A1GP or even Palmer-Audi cars in LFS.
The powerboost doesn't do anything really obvious, they get a limited number of them per race and on some tracks they don't even bother using them. My concern is we will lose the type of racing that has made A1GP popular, with increased speed and aerodynamics we might see less overtaking and side by side action.

This is the kind of thing we want to keep...
