Thunderflies........AARRRRGGGHHH
Damn things, arrggghhh, driving me round the bend today, not only do they swarm around your face and make you itch like mad, they get into my TFT monitor, and look like objects on my screen, and then I spend time trying to click a fake object on the screen.

God damn nasty things, anyone else suffering with them?
Nope.

Sorry to hear you are though. I didn't actually know what a thunderfly was, so I checked Google and I don't think I have ever seen one.

Aye, thrips, I think it's something to do with when they start combining the fields, which they started to do round here yesterday.

One of the fun things about living in rural Norfolk i guess.......
Just got back from a long cycle through the countryside. I was covered in them. Incidentally, also got attacked by a wasp and nearly ran over a fieldmouse.

None about in the city though.

Seems to be an invasion of flying beetle type jobbies here at the moment.
Saw a lot of horrible flying beetles and thrips when I lived in Derby. I don't know why it had so many, especially since I come from the middle of nowhere in Scotland so if it was related to the fields I'd have seen them before then!

Saw a few a year or two ago, but oddly enough you don't see that many of them in London
Nasty little things, they are getting worse, getting less work than usual done this afternoon.

Roll on the drive home, thank heavens for AC!!!!
Yep one of the little buggers got into my seriously expensive majorly cool TFT monitor, after a few days I thought it died ... turned out it was just off to the side having babies then I had loads of the little buggers in there, then after a few days of no food they've bitted the biscuit - but now i'm stuck waiting for Rigor Mortis to do it's thing because two of them died in the middle of the screen.

Sometimes I miss not having a man around the house so I can tell him to fix things...

We seem to have them all year round down South here, and yes at the moment they are out in force!

I wish this oppressive weather would go away soon, me being a bit ginger means I can go out for more than 10 minutes without turning into a pile of ash, I never remember the sun being so strong a few years ago?

I wonder what has happened to all the wasps and bees? There were loads of them back in May but I haven't seen a single one since then. (good, every morning I woke up to find one of them desperately headbutting the window!).

I think they are all in my garden, and some of the barns at my parents' house. Together, we've got millions of the blighters.
We have none here, when I saw the topic title I was expecting some kind of International Bug Rescue youtube video, I am dissapointed.
None today for me, but yesterday!? my god! millions of the blighters!
Not only was i sweating my man boobs off pulling in 2 kilometers of cable at work, thunderflies were all over my face and arms, irritating the hell out of me.
It pisses me off when they land on my screen as I spend ages trying to get rid of them >.<

I so need to get a fly screen in my window to keep them out, that and the buzzy buzzy bumble bees.
wow, we dont have those here in the US. Here we have these little things called fleas and they bite and they are annoying as heck and having inside animals makes it worse. And they get into your carpet, beds, chairs so you have to spray, vacuum pretty much every 2 days to keep them down and you have to wash the animals every 2 days also or cut the animals hair because they like to live in hair.

We get Fleas too, lucky I haven't had a hairy pet for just over 2 years so my house is pretty Flea less now, which is nice.

But now I am itching you git.

I've had the exact opposite, real ones on the screen which turn out to be virtual
They are actually flying ants (see wikipedia for details).

Seemingly Tuesday was their day for procreating, due to weather conditions, hence the invasion!

Only one day a year!

Happened here in Dublin too.
I'm glad I missed it, because I hate swarms of bugs on hot days and nights, you either close your windows and melt, or you open them and get eaten.

They're not ants....

Thunderflies are the tiny (~1mm long) flies you get occasionally on hot summer days when they often come out in their millions and get into *everything*. Luckily for me, the in city you don't really get them, but my parents who live out in the country get infested with them for a couple of days most years.

Flying ants are just.. well... *massive* ants with wings you get for a day as the new queens leave to make new nests.
Quote :Their small size also gives them an uncanny ability to find their way into seemingly impenetrable places, such as the inside of watch faces or between the panes of glass on LCD monitors [1]. Once inside, they often become trapped and die, leaving the corpse behind the screen indefinitely. Removal is often only possible if the LCD is dismantled and cleaned.

God damn, I gotta take my screen apart !?

Grrrr help.

Gief me man with screw driver nowz.
I think once they die they just fall to the bottom of your screen, or you could pretend they are dead pixels.
Danowat *sweet innocent hands behind back smile*, do you have a screw driver?
Nope, fresh outta screwdrivers here , knee deep in mallets though
