sorry to upset you, but all that statistic says is that approximately 144000 people who use iMDB think its good...
Personally although I enjoyed it, the film has a VERY long way to go to catch Casablanca or Gone With the Wind.
I've heard so much about Gone With the Wind but I have never seen it. Gotta watch it sometime soon. Haven't watched Casablanca but cmon... It's so old it can't be THAT good...
Casablanca isnt "good", its the pinnacle of screen entertainment! How do you think it can make the iMDB "top ten" after 65 years???
It is a true all time classic, bloody fantastic film, but then, I'm afraid it relies more on a good director, good actors, and a good story rather than sooper-dooper CGI.
Another classic movie that shows good acting and great direction with a very good story (and also a bit of CGI :P) is none other than...

Let's assume we ignore the great films - Schindler's List, Shawshank Redemption and that ilk - and instead concentrate on the fantasy/science fiction/"not at all real" genre.
I would say the original Star Wars trilogy was better. 2001 A Space Odyssey was better. The previous Batman film was better (I forget what it's called though - the one when he 'becomes' Batman). ET was better. Short Circuit was better. Hell, even Nemo was better overall.
Don't get me wrong, Black Knight was a good film. But not a great film. The voting is probably skewed by a larger majority of the target audience (geeks, essentially) knowing how to vote on IMDB, and IMDB having a greater popularity as a filmny website than it did just a year or two ago. I don't believe the voting is at all representative at the moment.

Why?
pimp, popular new movies always start at #1 on the charts due to fanboyism, overexcitement, etc. I think Superbad was briefly at #1 when it came out. Give it a couple months and it'll be down in the 30s.
Maybe DWB but I have a feeling it's still gunna stay pretty high.

I'm guessing you're just too young to appreciate them. You've got to think about them in the context of the times they were made in. While I personally don't enjoy Casablanca, or most other older movies, I certainly appreciate them for what they are, and definitely agree that they are some of the greatest films ever made.
The Dark Knight will have a big media hub-ub again at DVD release, and at the awards, and then will be forgotten. It was a very good movie, but certainly not a great one.

Not really. At one point I thought it would be done but they kept going. And don't tell me you knew what the magic trick was :P.
Dark Knight was very predictable.
It's 16th right now in csfd.cz chart which is much more reliable because charts there are not based just on average of all votes, but they have special algorithm which takes many different things into account like how many people voted, how 'experienced' (number of movies they've rated) they are, how many points they have (you get one point if someone adds you to his "top20 users" chart), how many stars the most experienced and popular users gave...
So I expect it to fall to like 10th at IMDB.
