A Technical Problem Playing LFS
Hi. I really don't know where to post this. but lately, I've been having a
major problem when trying to start up LFS. See, I fried my mother board and had to get a new one. That's where the problem is. it boots up and all, but then says it cant recognise the operating system. I can get to the computer's bios, but that's about it. I'm pretty sure it's NOT the hard drive as I've tried another hard drive with a different operating system on it as well. My guess is I don't have something plugged in right or I got a bad board. Has anyone had a similar problem? I haven't been able to vote to
ban someone in almost a month and am stuck using this dinosaur 300 meg
just to read the newspaper. Anyways, any information on how I can get LFS to operate properly with this problem I got would be greatly appreciated

Like I said, I didn't know where to post this, but I figured it was keeping me from playing LFS and that technically, that's a big issue.
Does the MoBo see the HDD? You should be able to see some info about HDD on POST screen or in BIOS.... (capacity, DMA mode...)

Uh yeah, it does.
Can we have the EXACT message and whats generating the message (if you know), not "it cant recognise the operating system"? We might beable to give you a few more hints then.

It sounds as if Windows cant find the appropriate SATA drivers. If thats the case then your only real choice is to format and start again, or reinstalling Windows over the top again (F6 on install to load SATA drivers, etc.).

I may be misunderstanding the problem, but just for clarification, on PCs it's next to impossible to replace a mobo without reformatting your PC or at the least creating a new partition and installing a fresh OS on that. Once Windows has installed drivers on a HD for a particular Mobo that it's seen during setup, it's pretty well impossible to introduce a new mobo to that install.

PartitionMagic is an excellent program for resizing partitions and creating new partitions on existing HDs. If this is the problem, that's a solution.
Is the new motherboard the same or a different one? If it's different I wouldn't even bother trying to see if the old copy of Windows loads. Can you boot from a Windows CD just to see if the installer will load?
Hi. thanks for all the responses. uh to be honest, this is the second motherboard for the HD i'm wanting to use. I didn't have to reformat anything before... just plugged it in an ran the disc that came with the motherboard.

Uh... I'll try and get the exact message the other comp is saying
about recognizing the os thanks again
hi. Uh After googling about on this issue I have. I found that it's a
common occurrence when switching M/boards.
The message I got on the machine was "error loading operating system".
the problem is, there are about 6 zillion reasons for getting this error
and that there are that many possible solutions as well. the one thing that will seem to work is getting another HD and slaving the one that has gets the error. I might could get this hd to work if I was lucky enough to stumble across the exact problem/solution in this lifetime, but
plunking down a few bucks for a recently outdated HD and making it a master seems to be the most convient and most likely answer to my problem. Besides, I need a bigger HD anyways.

man, last time was pretty much plug & play.

lol, I just THOUGHT it sucked to get online to empty servers.... It REALLY SUCKS to not be able to get online at all
