FPS, how to improve it?
Generally at the beginning of races, with an amount of cars *lets say 5 -20* When the lights go out and we all race to the first corner, I get huge FPS lag until everyone is in the racing line, and race normally. It's roughly 10-20 FPS for 30 seconds, and the rest of the race its between 30-40 FPS, maybe perhaps 50.

Here is what I have.

Athlon 2000+ XP
1.3 GB RAM, (2X 512MB PC2700) (1X 256MB PC3200)
nVidia 6800GT AGPX8 256MB

Any recommendations on what to change to improve the FPS performance? For those that have nvidia, I set it in high performance, no Anistalising. (sp?)

Also I am not upgrading my computer at this time, as the PC is in good working order. I know I need a new processor, but I don't need it right now . No upgrade comments is necessary, but thanks anyway.

And the bottleneck is going to be your processor.

Sorry my bad, I was referring to myself, that I won't be upgrading in a while, and I was looking for recommendations on how to improve it with the components I had already.

Would a Athlon 3200+ Processor be enough to give the 6800GT the power it needs?
How optimized is your PC?, by that I mean are you running many programs in the background, have you turned off unneeded services, are you running a bloaty (norton) AV?.

Have you tried reducing the details in LFS?.

Also, I wasnt aware that AMD XP chips were happy running memory in that (3 stick) config, I always thought they liked them in pairs.

Dan,
With a 6800GT you should be able to play at 1600x1200 with full AA/AF and notice no difference to your current situation.

The only way to get your fps up is a better CPU. Maybe you can try killing as many background processes as possible, but it won't help that much. LFS eats CPUs for breakfast. The only time where the GFX card is the bottleneck is when it is very very shitty, like a GF4MX or something. Did I already mention you need to upgrade your CPU?

PS: Make sure HVS is enabled in your LFS graphics options

What is HVS?
Hardware Vertex Shading

That means the GFX card does more/all of the polygon handling and decreases load on the CPU, therefore giving it more time to do physics calucaltions, resulting in higher fps. Every card better than a GF2/GF4MX supports this.

To enable it go to Options > Graphics and set "Hardware Vertex Shading" to "On". Normally it should be on by default, but some users have it turned off for some weird reason. Just make sure it's turned on.

Another thing I just remembered is that you should turn "Simple track" off too (on the same options page).
Thanks very much mate. Much appreciated. And thank you to others using their time to help me.
